Can anyone give me a sense for the town and surrounding towns? We're looking at a few houses in Deer Park this weekend (weather providing).
TIA!

Re: Impressions of Deer Park...
like everywhere else, there are good parts and bad parts....you really have to drive around the neighborhood
there's a part of Deer Park that is in SD #5 (Half Hollow Hills) that is more desirable
the good thing about it is that the train from Deer Park into NYC is direct and only 1 hour

Re: Impressions of Deer Park...
The northern part of Deer Park is pretty nice (in my opinion) .. close to Dix Hills .. and yes .. some of that area goes to Half Hollow Hills.
A real estate agent I know has said the 'Burlington' section of Deer Park was desirable .. where you'd want to be if you moved there .. but Deer Park is a big area .. and it has many nice areas.
I will say .. I think in general .. it is my opinion that Deer Park is frowned upon more than it deserves.
The best way to get a feel for a neighborhood is to spend time there.
If you have addresses for the houses you plan to see .. send them to me in a FM .. and I'll see what else I might be able to find out.

I'm from Deer Park and I live in the burlington section (north east section). Deer Park is split into four corners by the railroad (splits north/south) and Deer Park Ave (splits east/west). It is definitely the nicest part of town. It's on the Dix Hills line. I hear our schools aren't the greatest. I graduated in 99 and I thought they were fine. I would stay away from the bay shore road area. The west side of town is more affordable and there are more families on that side of town.
