In a brand new house...what are the priorities with decorating?

window treatments (I think we need to do mini blinds right away for privacy)

painting? BUT...which room gets done first?

Our house is a blank slate and we don't know where to start!!

i would think it should be the rooms that will be used. for instance, painting...the kitchen, bathroom, den, bedroom. that way, you can live nicely while the other rooms are being fixed up.

if you plan on changing the windows or doors, do that first. we made the mistake of coming in and painting the whole house and now 1 year later we can afford to change the windows and doors and will have to repaint everything.

I would do the floors and the painting first. Our upstairs bathroom and kitchen are in good condition, but a little outdated. We decided to wait since they are functional (just a little ugly).

it's a BRAND NEW house....NEW carpet, New windows....I'm not changing anything like that because it does not need to be done. We picked a very neutral carpet.

I'm talking which rooms to paint, how to pick what colors, basic window treatments vs. ones that I won't change in 3 months

We painted the rooms we had the most furniture for first and the rooms we spent the most time in.

Paint the rooms you will spend the most time in first- family room/living room, your bedroom, the kitchen. The house we will be moving into is not brand new but it all needs to be painted. We decided to do the FR, the kitchen and our bedroom first.

i would first paint then buy furniture and accessories. some suggest to buy furniture first then match wall color.

deicde on the type of style/mood that you would like for each room and choose your colors accordingly. MANY furniture stores offer in-home design services. the designer will come to your home and suggest various floor plan ideas, fabric choices, paint colors and accessories that best meet/suit your style.
