Leaving for Bahamas on Monday & just realized I don't have the right birth certificate; hubby has passport so he's ok, but I just have NYS driver's license and birth cert. from hospital(not the one that looks like a negative)-can't seem to find that one. Do you know if they will accept anything else-I know they say you need license & some other form of id.

In a panic state about honeymoon
I have been to the Bahamas 3 times and I do not have a passport. I used my drivers license and birth certificate, and I don't think it was the original copy. If you are worried, bring your travel agent what you have and ask if that will be OK - they are ver familiar with these things. Or, call the airline.

Call both the airline and the travel agent to make sure. I used to work at the airport as a check in agent on flights to Spain and Argentina and had to turn away many passengers because their travel agents gave them the wrong information. Good Luck!!

If you go to the town office of the town you were born in they can give you a certified copy (with a raised seal). I have done this a few times (I kept losing mine) and it cost about $10 and they did it on the spot for me.

If you don't have a passport you will need to bring your birth cirt. with the raised seal (a copy will not do) and your license. (that is what I always do since I do not have a passport)
One other word of advise, make sure to save some cash for the end of your trip. The last time I went to the Bahamas they carged me something like $15 that you have to pay in cash when you check into your returning flight. (good thing I didn't gamble it all away).
Have fun!

If I don't find my cert., I guess I can't go??
Unfortunately the only one I have in my files is not the right one; wish I had thought to get passport a couple of months ago.
Well, wish me luck; my friend who set up the arrangements is coming by tonight and I'll show her what I have, but I don't think I can use it and I don't have time to get the right one.

I realized 2 days before I was supposed to leave for my honeymoon (also in the Bahamas)that I had lost my birth certificate. I went to the Town Hall in the town where I was born, showed my drivers license and 1 other form of ID, and had a birth certificate with a raised seal in about 5 minutes. It's no problem, so please don't worry, just get your butt to Town Hall PRONTO! : ) Good luck!

I went to town hall in the town that I was born in. I showed them my driver''s license and a credit card and they were able to give me a copy of my birth certificate with a raised seal within a few minutes.
I think that you need to go to the town hall in the town in which you were born because that is where the birth records are housed for local hospitals.
I do not think airlines will accept a birth certificate without the raised seal. I tried to use one a few years back to go to Cancun and was not able to.
Also - there are services that will issue passports in 24 hours, however they are usually pretty expensive.

SPRINGBRIDE...GO to NYCDOH for certificate
if you were born in Queens. It's the NYC Dept of Health. I used to work there, it's 125 Worth Street, 1st floor in Manhattan (between Lafayette and Center Streets). Since you don't have much time, just go there tomorrow early and wait on line and I think they give it to you on the spot. I think they might even close for lunch? good luck!

using one I have
Saw my travel agent last night & showed her the one I have from the hospital(it's the one with the footprints & everything on back-she said I could use it. She said if it makes me feel better, could go & have copy notarized this way they have notary seal on it too; will try to do that at lunchtime.
Wish me luck!!
