I called a photographer that I have never seen mentioned on here, but came recommended by a patient at work.
His studio is in his home, and he doesn't do any meetings there. He wants to meet in MY home, or FH's home.
We both still live with our parents, and we're neverrrrr alone in the house.
He won't quote packages or prices over the phone - he was only willing to give me a range. (From $500 - 8000 some range). He claims that his packages are complex, and too difficult for the client to understand unless he explains them.
So what do I do? I want his pricing/packages, but I'm not comfortable w/ this guy in our homes.
Thanks

Re: In-home photography meeting?
Can you pick a location like Starbucks where they have areas for you to sit and tables for you to work off of?

that is a good idea.. I think its rather odd that we will not let you go to his 'studio'

Re: In-home photography meeting?
OK, I just called him back and told him that we have no place to meet...
he said that places like Borders usually kick him out b/c he brings so much stuff with him...
I explained that I ONLY need photo - no video - and he said that lightens his load a lot.
So we're meeting publicly this weekend - thanks ladies!!!

I thought so too - but he said that he works out of his home, and wants to protect his kids, etc.
Thats understandable....but I don't want strangers in MY home for the same reason!

I know...little sketch.
However, a lot of NYC photographers that work out of their homes, come to you (like mine) but they're a lot happier to meet in a public place - for your safety and theirs....

Re: In-home photography meeting?
I had a photographer come to my house once and it was the worst thing ever! He wouldn't leave until we signed, luckily my Dad was home and kicked him out. Needless to say we didn't go with them. Their initials are PVN is it?

Re: In-home photography meeting?
It seems to me that most people who work out of there homes still have a studio there that you could go to. Hopefully everything goes perfectly with the photographer you pick but if it doesn't - does that mean you have no way to reach him/her except by phone? I don't know if I would want to take that chance. IMO - not worth it

I had one guy come to the house; here's my take on it:
(1) If they come to you, they'll only bring a very small selection of their work -- understandably, because they have to carry it all but I didn't get a broad range.
(2) When they don't have a full out studio, that makes me nervous. It means they're sending photos out for developping and you never know who is touching your work.
So...IMO, I'd skip this person all together.

this sounds litle iffy to me. def. only meet in public place if you do decide to go. Be careful!!! also FM me your budget for this and I can tell you who i checked out and if it'll be worth going to.

Re: In-home photography meeting?
Lots of my friends have met their vendors at off site locations. For me, I wanted to see a permanent address. It's the lawyer in me. I have to know that if I need to serve papers on someone, I'll be able to! Ok, I'm kidding, but only a little!!

That shouldn't be an issue....
My mother's boyfriend is a professional photographer, he had his own store/studio, and still sent out his photos for processing. Many photography studios do that as well, and don't process the film onsite. But now he has his business out of their house.
Many photographers now a day's use digital photography, so they don't need to send anything out to another lab for processing, this way they can keep their costs down too because they don't have as much overhead by working out of their house.

Thanks ladies - we're meeting publicly.
He's not my top choice, but we'll see how things go.
