In-Law question.

In-Law question.

If your in-laws are suggesting super expensive places for the reception and they are inviting 60% of the guest list should they pay?

How much do you think they should contribute?. It's my 1st marriage and my fiance's , we've known each other for 10 years and we are way too young to afford a wedding on our own.

i feel that if they are making the suggestions and inviting most people they should at least pay for their guests. if they are merely making suggestiopns for you to look at but the decision is up to you, then it may be different

*for instance..my ILs insisted on a viennese hour. but FH and couldnt afford it plus another hour for the band, so they are paying for it.

I think that if you are paying, then you need to tell them that they get X amount of people to invite and that you are only looking at halls for X amount of money. Then, if they want to offer money, they will.

If they are sugessting the reception hall and are inviting 60% of the guest maybe you should speak to them about the money situation and have them help pay for the wedding or you will need to find a more resonable priced hall. Maybe they can pay for their guest. That is what my family id doing since most of the people coming are my parents friends. They are payinf gor their guest and my fiance's parents are paying for theirs

Keep in mind that sometimes they just dont realize the cost of these places. My mom kept suggesting Flowerfields which is an AMAZING place but way out of mine and FI budget. When I told my mom the prices some people were paying for there, she was shocked! she never really thought about how much some catering halls charge.
They may be giving suggestions based on where they have been and liked.
*its your wedding, do what you and your FI want not what everyone else suggests! Becuase EVERYONE has their opinion on what you should do!

my parents are contributing but I don't think its fair for them to pay for my fiance's parents guests. My parents don't have a problem paying for everything on their own but then I think they should cut their list to a minimun. What do you guys think?

Re: In-Law question.

Well, here is what I'm doing. MY parents and MINE alone are paying for the reception. JT's parents are paying for NADA and JT and I are paying for the rest. SO, my mother said, 'They can invite 40 people, anything over that, they can pay for.' So that solves that problem for me. JT has a small family, and they are SCROUNGING to come up with even 40 people, so I don't think it will be a problem. But they know they are paying for anything over. If we go over on people because of our friends, then JT and I will pay. I think it's only fair.

IMO....they should pay for their guests if they can afford it. If they cant afford it, I think they should try to compromise and invite less ppl OR pick a less expensive place.

Rachel's way seems very fair. I agree that they should not invite so many people and not contribute anything. I would give them the benefit of the doubt and talk to them about how expensive a wedding is.
