Does anyone out there have In-Laws who live far away? Do you feel like you don't even know them? Just wondering if it's normal to care even if you feel like they don't.

Re: In-Laws
A lot of people have in law who are far away (i don't) and it is perfectly normal for you do feel like you don't know them. As time passes you will get to know them better - holidays, birthdays, and even crisis will make you more a part of the family. You might not every be really close to them -- some family are just like that.
I would say that there are some real advantages to not having them real close -- some in laws can be rather intrusive.

I agree! My ex had the kind of family where everyone was in everyone else's business (his sister even bought the house next door to their mom after she got married, much to the dismay of her husband!). His family was a MAJOR reason we broke up after 5 years. My FH's family on the other hand doesn't live that close to us and we have a great relationship because we're not in each other's hair all the time!

Mine are far away, and it's delightful! I mean, I love them, but space is good.

Re: In-Laws
Mine don;t live that far away, but I still feel like I hardly know them. One of FH sister's is a medical resident and I;ve only met her twice in 4 years.
I don;t really care. I have the whole rest of their lives to get to know them.

I don't mind my FIL because he's so sweet but my MIL is the one I can't take most of the time and they live about 45 minutes away from us and that's still not far enough

my MIL lives in OH and I see her twice a year. I don't feel like I don't know her because she calls us 3-4x a week

Re: In-Laws
My FFIL lives in Florida and we only see him once or twice a year. FH and I are okay with it, but I wish our kids got to see their grandfather more often!
