I'm going away on Friday and I'm freaking out about flying. I hate to fly, although I get on the plane, I really truly hate it. I think thats why I'm in such a mood today. I went to the doctor for some 'help' and she gave me Xanex, *** is xanex going to do for me? I need something stronger, dammit!!!! You ever see the guy on the place Twilight Zone episode? That is so me!

YES definatly add alittle alchohol of some sort with the zanex and you should be fine. I dont think anyone likes flying these days, but once your up in the air its smooth sailing!!

I freak out on a plane. I had to buy a book on trying to overcome your fear on flying. IT worked for my trip to ireland but it also helped that I made my mind up i wasn't going to cry the entire time like i do when i go to florida.
Best thing is to be REALLY sleepy and this way your a little bit loopy and don't notice the bumps so much.

oh man, that is such a tough fear to face! Try not to think about it, you'll end up psyching yourself out more. The apprehension is what makes it more difficult.... Think of your destination - not the mode of transportation!

My cousin told me about the bars... no she gave me .25. I'm like come on now lady.. I think she gave me 30, maybe taking all of them will help. I was thinking of buying a book to overcome my fear, but I don't think it'll help. I like the stuardess idea, it gets my FH off the hook, hes usually asleep by the time we take off!!! Urghhh.... thanks girls.

Yup your right. I build it up in my head. Whats meant to be is meant to be. I just took your advice and checked out Aruba weather. 87 and sunny... ahhhh.

I hate flying...but for some reason, sitting next to the window...looking out...and holding on tight while crying seems to do the trick!!!
I say take the zanex...a glass of wine and that should relax you enough to make it through

Dont Drink Please Believe Me Dont Drink I know its tough but I heard the books work for a lot of people.. think of how much fun you are going to have once you get there!!! Xanax should help calm you down a bit.. you are betteroff taking two xanaxs than you are drinking with xanax you can get sick....

It does the trick for me, I hated flying after 9/11, I would get so scared, They do it fo rmy, I take 2- .25mg pills and it seems to do the trick
eta: if it's a long flight and I'm going to have a glass of wine, I'll only take 1 pill
Vallium was extremly strong for me, I didn't like it at all

Oh man. You mean the one where he sees the ape on the wing of the plane? That ***** chica.
What airline are you flying on? I just flew jetblue and each seat has its on tv with live television shows! It was great and I really think it would help someone who is scared of flying. It gives you something to focus on. If you arent flying jetblue, do you have a portable dvd player?? Bring your favorite movies. You'll be ok. pop some xanex and focus on something other than the flight.

Actually the best way to handle your fear is by exposing yourself to it. So you getting on a plane is actually helping! You should try to fly more often you'll have that fear as part of your past in no time!

Re: In need of some support
i like to fly jetblue too! the tv's a good distraction. A valium or such would help a little too, just don't get carried away. as a therapist, you will not be able to live with your fear if you don't face it from time to time. Thought distraction is one of the most used techinques for flying. You'll be fine. Have a great trip.
