In reference to baby clothes...

What is the average weight a baby weighs per each size that baby clothes come in?

0-3 months
6-9 months
9-12 months

I was just wondering since my baby is soooo big already, if he's born 8-10lbs (Let's hope not!) Would he even fit into 0-3 months?

I know it varies, but just an average, or other people's experiences? Thanks!

It's so hard to answer because it really does depend, not only on the clothes brand but the baby's shape. Some are longer and thinner, some have long bodies and shorter legs (and vice versa). Luke was 9lb 3 oz at birth and was 22 inches and he wore 0-3 month pajamas for about 2-3 months. I didnt even bother with 0-3 clothes (other than pjs) I just rolled the cuffs on 3-6 month clothes. He wore 3-6 month outfits for quite awhile so I think that size would get the most use on any baby. Hes 13 months now and he still wears some 9-12 onesies - I guess his body is shorter because he's wearing alot of 18 month pants for length. I think it's just best to go by brand and not overstock. I think generally speaking, 0-3 mth clothes go up to 11 lbs. 3-6 month maybe 12-15 lbs., 6-9 month 15-20 and 9-12 month 21-23/24 lbs.

You can look on any store website to see their specific weight guidelines. Most are very close with their ranges, but as pp said, some clothes are cut wider or longer than others. Good sites to try are Baby Gap and Old Navy. Go to the baby clothes section , choose an item, and when you go to choose the size there is a link to click on the size chart. Here is the Old Navy newborn chart. If it is too hard to read you can use their website.

0 to 3 mos. - Up to 23 in - 7-12 lbs.
3 to 6 mos. - 23-27 in. - 12-17 lbs.
6 to 9 mos. - 27-29 in. -17-22 lbs.

I have a feeling our baby is going to be a good size 8 or bigger. I don't plan on getting anything too small. I have a feeling the baby won't be wearing them too long.
Friends of ours told us that their baby was only in the small diapers for 3 weeks.

People love to buy 'little' clothes too, since they are soooo cute. Plus it is hard to buy for next season when you just don't know what size your baby will be.
But if you give birth to a large baby, I am sure you will need the 3-6 month stuff pretty quickly.

my mom always told me not to buy people 0-3 clothes...b/c I was 22 in and 8# and I fit into them for a week...

but then I bought a friend 6-9 and 12 mo clothes for her shower...and she went into labor 6 weeks early!!! and she laughs now wondering if he'll ever wear them...

i didnt buy anything smaller than 3-6 months...and tried VERY HARD not to buy at all....(not successfully!)

the thing is too that not only the size of your child at birth but also the SEASON

I am still trying to return some 6-9 mo old stuff that is TOO springy and wont fit julianne in apr, may, june....and there were some 6-9 month wintery studd she could not wear because it was too WARM in sep to wear it and now the pants are TOOO short on her (like her up to her knees!)

please KEEP ALL RECEIPTS in an envelope in a safe place. I put it in my underwear drawer!
