In regards to ......

In regards to the thread about re-creating pictures for your wedding, how many of you brides out there have seriously thought about printing out some of your must have-totally loove pictures for your photographer. I have been thinking about this for a while and I keep coming back to I might offend him. But on the other hand there are certain pictures / posses that I want. How do all of you feel about this?

Let me know.

why would you offend him? My photographer even asks for a list of pictures that we want...

As much as you choose your photographer because he/she is an artist and a professional, you also choose him/her because you have faith that he/she is the best person to capture your wedding day the way YOU want it captured... in the end, they are your pictures, and any photographer who isn't willing to give you what you want isn't worth the money you're paying them.

Now, obviously, you don't want to dictate EVERYTHING they do, because then you're not allowing them to use their creativity and do what they do best, but giving them a few pictures to recreate is completely reasonable!

i don't think it's rude to give them pictures and ideas of what is attractive to you and what you would like to see in your wedding album. i would print out a few and explain what you like about them...ie. style, color, layout, emotional expression. you're just trying to convey a specific tone you would like in your pictures, whether they be fun and playful, or dramatic and sophisticated.

I did it! But I have heard some photographers get insulted because it seems like YOU are telling them how to do their job. Well when I am paying you thousands of dollars...I am going to tell you what I want.

Mine was glad to have them. I just printed out a few I wanted to recreate and gave it to them and my DOC

Good question . . I wondered how many people did this and if I should.

I don't think it's insulting to them- you have a right to tell them what you want. You're paying them!

great post!! I was wondering the same thing too....I was planning on giving them a list, but I too want to give them a print out of my must haves but wasn't sure how it would go over. I have faith in my photographers, and we got to know them better through doing our e-pics, but I don't want to look back at my wedding photos and say to myself 'I wish I had a picture like that' looking back on my must haves. I don't think my photographers will take offense to it -- so as of now I am planning on printing out a few pictures for them as a guide.

I agree...mine will be getting examples.

I disagree. If you think your photographer is worth thousands of dollars, you shouldn't have to micro-manage them.

Here's a better idea - for your formal portraits, give the photographer your list of people's names, their relationship to you and your husband, and combinations you want of those people. You won't realize until you do it, how many different combinations you want.

Then, if you want certain 'styles' of pictures (silhouettes, wide angle shots, closeups of flowers, etc.), choose them from your photographer's portfolio.

That way you're not showing him/her someone else's work and basically saying, I don't trust your skill so please copy a different photographer's work.

This is just my opinion, that a lot of brides go way overboard with this thinking that it's ok because you just want it your way.

There is a line of decency and respect and giving your photographer printouts of other people's work and saying 'Do this.' is insulting. I've discussed this with professional photographers (some of them LI wedding photographers) and they agree.

Again, do what you want, it's just my opinion.
