Depends on how much time is left and the price difference between bidding and buying it now

I've done both. Mostly because some only have the option to 'buy it now' Otherwise I bid on everything else.

I have done both. I was bidding on an auction and someone else bid against me. Eventually the bid price was higher than the buy it now! In cases like that I will just purchase it immediately. I like to know that it's mine.
