I honestly wish NY would have more nuclear power plants. Then we can have our electric rates cut!! I understand that people are afraid of accidents...there are many fail safes to insure that that doesnt happen. There are many other states that use Nuclear Power and they have no problems with it.
If they had opened Shoreham....and there was an accident that the Island had to be evacuated....do you honestly think that anyone would be able to get off of LI?? People sit in traffic on a nornal workday just trying to go a few miles...god forbid we ever have an emergency where we really would have to get off!!
My g/f has a house in the Poconos, that has electric heat...even in the dead of winter...running it 24 hours a day, her electric billis only $100 a month!!!! Hmmmmmmmmmmm....try having an electric heat house on LI!! You are looking at $600-700-800 a month!!!
We need to find cleaners, more efficiant forms of power and nuclear power seems to be one that needs to be explored more on LI!!

No one can get near the old Shoreham plant - the water around it is so contaminated. Talk to someone who grew up over there...there are a lot of unexplained health issues & sick people around those parts.
