Indulging 1x/wk speeds weight loss?? true or not??

I once read that if you go completely off your diet just once per week, but are on a strict diet the other days, that it helps you to avoid a plateau & actually speeds up weight loss? Any truth to this??? Has anyone tried this & lost weight?? Just curious

It is true that having a cheat day makes it easier for most people to do strict diets ... if you deprive yourself, it will never work out. I'm not so sure that cheating speeds up the metabolism enough to make you lose weight faster though ...

i am not sure if it is true or not

i am on ww

and i notice that when I cheat one day(like major, go to a restaurant and eat whatever) i still lose weight

if you find the truth to it, let me know cause I can totally live with one cheat/week!

I compete in figure competitions and when I am in dieting we are required to have a 'cheat meal' once a week...after we are about 4-5 weeks into strict dieting. You need to track your weight and body fat very closely and when you start to see no improvements you should throw in the 'cheat meal'. It helps to give your metabolism a jump start. The rules I need to follow for a cheat meal are- its only a meal so it should not be any longer then an hour- you can eat whatever you want- but after that meal you need to resume your normal dieting for the rest of the day/ week as if the cheat meal didn't happen.

100% true, thats really a big part of Weight Watchers too (we get a certain amount of weekly points). You can use a little indulgence each night or one big cheat day. It has deff worked for me personally!

Absolutely correct! This is something I struggle with as I diet and track everything. I have restricted so much and not cheated that my trainer/nutritionist have finally convinced me that it has slown down my progress. Today is my first day that I am really going to have my cheat meal and not cut out food before I get to dinner. It absolutely works exactly as kfizz just said!
