Inexpensive *beach* vacation recs needed please

We are totally in love with the Bucuti in Aruba but are thinking of going somewhere less expensive next year since we will be starting to look for a house. I'm nervous about Mexico or anywhere where the water could make you sick (but am open to having my mind changed!)

We both would also prefer adults only and somewhere that is private..I guess sort of like the bucuti. DH just heard great things about a resort in DR and I'm looking for some other ideas (DR sounds good to me, I just want some options)

We would like to spend $3000 or less (TOTAL...air, food, etc.)..the cheaper the better. Also, we need somewhere with an incredible beach! (we're not too picky or anything)

and we would like to go around our anniversary which is in April..but we would go anytime Jan-April.

that looks really nice but about the same price-wise as the Bucuti

I should also add that we are NOT interested in a cruise

AND we would like to be able to go for a week

(once again I will say it's a good thing that we're not picky or anything )

I've been to Mexico several times and have never gotten sick from the water. Just make sure that you don't drink anything made or washed in the local water. Most hotels are very careful not to contaminate anything that is being served to their guests.

You should know that the local water is not drinkable in DR either.

There are nice AIs in Dominican Republic! Drink bottled water if you are worried about it- also some resorts filter their water.

I highly recommend Lifestyle Hacienda Resort, in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. You can not beat the amenities and the price ! The junior suites are very affordable and perfectly located. The villas are stunning and each has it's own private swimming pool !
