Hubby and I would like to go away, and the one thing that sucks about being a teacher, is that when we can go away it is so EXPENSIVE Anyone recommend a good 5 day trip somewhere? We were thinking of maybe the Florida Keys, but what is there to do? We want to wait to go to Disney again. Thanks

Re: Inexpensive Trips???
I love Key West!! There's not a whole lot to do (which I like) - I spend the days there laying by the pool and the evenings on Duvall Street which is where the bars are located.
Charleston, SC is a charming city that's pretty close. You can take tours of the city and plantations in the area. We stayed in Mount Pleasant which is about 10 minutes from the visitors center and it was more suburban with out door pools & such.
I always wanted to go to Savannah, GA.
New Orleans is a lot of fun. We usually stay at the Omni Royal on St. Louis which is a block from Bourbon. They often have great weekend deals - even holiday weekends!! I honestly believe NO has some of the best food in the world.

Re: Inexpensive Trips???
There's San Fran, San Diego, Vegas (not the biggest fan of the place but wanted to bring up all options), New Orleans, even Seattle is supposed to be a great city.
Those are the places that immediately come to mind that have a lot to offer and don't have to be that expensive because they're serviced by lower cost airlines like Jetblue and Southwest.
If you want to go even cheaper and make it a driving trip, there's Lake Placid/Montreal, Lancaster/Hershey Park, tons of things in Virginia like Williamsburg-DC is nearby....
When are you going?

Re: Inexpensive Trips???
We would like to go during Presidents week.
Christine...what hotel did you stay at in Key West??
It's a lovely resort with a great pool area and private beach. They have really hoy guys that will bring lounge chairs out to you on the beach. There's waitress service on the beach and by the pool. They have a hot tub there too.
IMO, they have the best and most extensive breakfast buffet I have seen.
How pathetic do I sound - I know the food in these places

Key West is fun! We stayed at the Ocean Key House, which is at the end of Duvall Street. It's right next to the pier that has the nightly sunset celebration. I wouldn't call it budget, though.
Funny story-when I called to make reservations, I spent a long time on the phone with the hotel rep...asking about the town, the hotel, asked about the best suite in the hotel. When we checked in, they brought us up to this humongous 2 bedroom suite, Jacuzzi in the master bedroom, balcony. Apparently, the rep bumped us up to this room, and the regular room charge. It pays to be friendly and ask questions!
We spent time on the beach near the hotel that Christine recommended. As I recall, it's the only beach on Key West. Something to consider if you're a beach bum.

Thank you! I was trying to think of the name of this hotel!!! We went there for drinks one night and it was beautiful!

Re: Inexpensive Trips???
I love Key West as well...If you are into Ernest hemingway - his old house is down there (when he wrote the Old Man and the Sea)
and you could even fly into Miami and then drive down (be careful of parking in KW though)...but the drive across the keys is just fantastic...you realize where crayola got the idea for seafoam green!!!
you could also look at www.site59.com or www.deltavacations.com I have had good luck with both of these sites!

If you can stand not going somewhere really warm - what about williamsburg, VA
Otherwise I would recommend - Key west, Amelia island, FL,

I know its not a warm place, but FH and I love going to Montreal for a few days of getting away from it all. We have so much fun there! There are some great restaurants and really cool nightlife.
