I need help and advice. My FH and I are paying for EVERYTHING ourselves and aren't sure if an engagement party is within budget. I need ideas and tips on how to go about doing this. Thanks!!!

Re: Inexpensive Ways to Have An Engagement Party???
Wait until the weather gets warmer and do a casual BBQ. Probably the most inexpensive thing, and who doesn't love chillin' outside with booze and grilled food?

Re: Inexpensive Ways to Have An Engagement Party???
I was going to rent out a Knight of Columbus Hall and have mine but by the time all was said and done and me and my family would have to set up and clean up we decided to have it at a small resturant/catering hall by my house....nothing big like 35 per person and since it was a small mom and pop place i paid in cash and they did not charge me tax
Shop around and see if there is a good place that works out for you
Good luck

We just did a simple dinner with the family, and my mom got us an engagement cake. It was nice and not too crazy.

A friend of mine was in the same situation but had to have an E-party because their families had never met. They did a casual bbq and had close friends/family each bring a dish, which we did. If you feel uncomfortable asking this, you could ask that they do that in lieu of a gift. None of us minded helping out w/ their party one bit.

That's something to think about. I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I could definately ask everyone to bring a dish and some to bring a bottle of wine or alcohol. Thanks!

FH and I had our engagement party here in our apartment, we rented chairs, cleared the living room (we actually had just moved in and had no furniture yet so it worked out) and our parents helped us with the food. it was very simple.

We had it at Dao in Huntington and paid $22pp. I've also heard that Outback does it for $15. Not sure if that's up your alley.
You might want to try your local Chinese restaurant too if you don't really care about ambiance and just want people to be together. You could always do a backyard BBQ for around $500 if that's an option.

Re: Inexpensive Ways to Have An Engagement Party???
Hi,
We had our enagagement party/college graduation party on the fourth of July and it was AMAZING. We had the party at FH house and it was a barbeque. We went with an orange/yellow theme even though it was the fourth of July.
You can have an inexpensive party by making it informal with some hamburger, hotdogs, chicken, etc...We had tiki tourchs everywhere, candles, and it was so intimate....
We added some good southern food to the mix and a DJ(friend of a friend) and my e-party was great. Oh ya...we also bought paper lanterns from Walmart and put it all around the backyard and it looked so pretty at night. Check out my album for pictures...
