Info About Hormones

Someone I know mentioned to me that young girls today are so much more developed than we were when we were that age due to the hormones that are in our food supply. She is suggesting that the hormones in food make girls develop quicker and more (in general). Has anyone heard of this? I thought it sounded a little off.

I've heard it before, I don't know if I believe it though.

I've never heard this before, but I suppose it would make sense if it were true.

I don't think it sounds off at all - it makes total sense.

Would it make sense that boys should develop quicker too?

They are!
But boys have generally reached puberty after girls - so even if a boy is developing earlier, it won't necessarily be at age 9 or 10, like some girls now.

I heard this YEARS ago. I think it sounds like it could be true. Although I ate tons of McDs and Burger King when I was growing up, and I'm still waiting to develop past an A cup

I'm sure someone will someday do a study comparing the development of kids eating a standard American diet (hormones, preservations) vs. kids who follow a more organic, natural lifestyle. There could be other factors involved as well...

When I was in school there were a few girls and boys that developed before the rest. My best friend at the time got her . at 9 and most of us were later. I don't have a lot of exposure to kids and teens, but I've posed this ? to some co-workers who have kids. They are not agreeing with it based on their own kids, but then they think about some other kids they've seen or their friends kids and they say, oh yeah. It seems like a moving target and there's really no proof.

Yes, I have heard this... but I don't think the hormones present in our food are the same ones that cause puberty.

It could be possible. I know that when I was 15 I read a book about different female body types. It was talking about how hourglass and pear shapes have more estrogen. I decided to try an experiment. I was at this time only eating salads and grilled skinless, boneless chicken (I had already given up redmeat) and was gaining weight. After finding out that chickens are pumped full of estrogen I quit eating chicken. The pounds just started to drop off. I have been a vegetarian ever since and make an effort to only eat organic.

The hormones injected in animals encourage growth - to get more meat out of one animal. It has been suggested that those hormones could make humans fat also. So for example because girls need a certain percentage of body fat in order to menstruate, some think that high consumption of fat/protein coupled with the growth hormones in our food makes humans bigger/develop faster.

Statistically girls do reach puberty at lower and lower ages, but they're not sure why. The hormones theory is just one
