inn at nhp showcase

Hey did anyone go last night to the showcase? Any updates on the bed and breakfast or new CH room?

we went last night but i don't have a real answer.

although, we were there a few weeks ago and Frank told us that the new CH room wouldnt be ready until August (he told us April when i first saw the place).

i did see that they had additional parking across the street, maybe that means that the sale went through. no signs of them getting rid of the ga station yet though....

have you picked any vendors yet??

did you notice anything different there last night?

for some reason i was a little dissapointed with the place.

it was our first time back since we booked it

-the little golf section was all messed up, def. not in good enough shape for pictures

-the food was average, the selections i made were fine, but my FH was very dissapointed with his food (specifically the sushi & seafood)

-also, while looking through the photogs books i really didnt like the way the outside shots were set up, you could see the neighboring houses in the pictures

-i was expecting ALOT more flowers in the outside area

-we arent having a ceremony there, but the 'reserved' signs on the chairs for the outside ceremony looked like they were just printed on plain paper and scotch taped on

just little things i guess, but it definitly brought my excitement down a notch :(

oh, the underground parking is finally usable

Don't worry. I have been to a showcase or two and one thing you realize is that with the showcases you have a lot of mismatched tables and decor and people floating around and that definetely makes a place not show its full potential or look right. You have to picture the space with all the wedding tables/decor and that makes a world of difference. I don't know if you ever saw the ballrrom bare. I did on my first visit and it was amazing.

As for the grounds, if people are walking around it is bound to mess up grass tec. and I am sure they fix that stuff before weddings.

The houses initially concerned me too but a good photog will know how to work with the bacground. FYI - I did not do with an Inn reccommended photog. Also, I am not really one for teh super scenic shots. I guess you can tell by my photog choice that I am going for someting unique and different and I know my photog will work with the setting there.

As for the food - that is one concern I always have. I had dinner there once and everything was good. I have never tried their sushi but I did not add sushi so I am not so worried. What were his concerned with the seafood. I am VERY curious?

PS- you should totally be excited. I think they will come through on the big day. They are holding themsleves out as a top notch place and just remember they want to stand out being so brand new as much as you want your wedding to stand out. PLUS - I CANT WAIT TO SEE THE CH room - I THINK IT WILL BE MAGNIFICENT!!!

I have a wedding of foodies (my dad and his friends are all in the NYC restaurant business) so food was primo for me. I am totally trusting them but of course I do not plan to be shy in making suggestions when I have my tasting.

I keep hoping people who attend wedding there will give us detailed food reviews!

longgg reply...

the seafood (particulary the oysters) were 'gritty', i guess that happens from not being cleaned well, and parts of the shells breaking off.

are you getting the seafood boat upgrade? we were thinking about it, but now i don't think it's going to be worth the $$ if it's not going to be well executed.

we did our tasting a few months ago. it was pretty akward, we made an appt. in advance and we just expected to be walked through the process, but nobody (the staff) knew what to do with us.

so in the end we just ordered a bunch of things off of the menu (apps and entrees) then they brought out a big dessert platter at the end.

a few standouts from the tasting:

crabcake appetizer - it was paired with a citrusy salsa, probably my favorite of the meal, and i order crabcakes alot when i go out

crab rangoons - good, but VERY rich

breaded chicken entree was really good, i think i might sub the restuarant selection for the catering chicken selection. i think that its the kind of safe chicken dish someone would want if they ordered chicken at a wedding.

filet of sole - not great

duck - good, prepared tableside

salmon - good, very moist

thats all i can remember right now about the meal...

some more questions for you-

are you doing the CH outside if its nice enough?

have you decided on a color scheme? BMs dress?

the dark maroon/blue carpet is starting to throw me off and make me question my color choices

BTW - our date is 3 weeks after yours :)

Hey:

I got the shrimp, clams and oysters upgrade. I hope that was a night where the oysters were just a little off!

See I saved the tasting for when we do the menu. I did, however, eat at their restaurant one day and most things we ordered were very good.

Is the crabcake appetizer an option for the wedding menu?

I do not plan on doing an outdoor cocktail hour. I am not so big on eating outside and summer heat definetely takes a toll on the food. Plus, there will be the new indoor cocktail room which I expect to be beautiful. I will ask them to set up some tables outside so people can walk out with their drinks and have cigarrettes outside if they like.

I am thinking of green or deep purple for dresses. iI will also incorporate a lot of white flowers which look stunning in that room. What colors are you going with? I wouldn't worry about being too matchy matchy with the carpet. Very few people notice those things and many halls hjave very dark floors.

Can't believe you guys are so close to my date. There is also a LIW girl getting married the weekend after me.

yes, the crabcakes are an appetizer option, but not part of of the appetizer/salad combo. i really want the combo so we may have to change some stuff around.

i think we will only do an outside CH if its perfect out. i CANT WAIT to see the new room though. do you know any details? i just know that is 'should' be ready by august.

did you hear about the new entryway plans?

colors: lots of white, champange, dusty rose, a little black

oh yeah, i emailed your photographer, she looks AMAZING!

One of my good friends just got engaged and is getting married there in October!!

She said the first time she went there it was set up for the showcase and she didn't love it - but when she went back and it was set up for a wedding she fell in love!

OMG too funny!! Ours is at 7. I have nooo idea what to expect, some people have said that churches can be really strict and ask really personal questions and some are more relaxed. I'm hoping that since it's a small church it'll be one of the more relaxed ones!

Ohh sounds great. I think I am not going for the combo but I will see! As for the room, I think it is supposed to be very detailed and I have heard rumors of some type of fountain in the middle. Linda assured me it would be magnificant and the guy who worked on the rest of the place designed it too!

Entryway? Do you mean to keep people off of Jericho or something else?

I think your colors sound fabulous for the place. I would love to do champagne but it was my sisters color (white and champagne with brown)so I opted out of that.

AG is amazing. She was a splurge for us but photos were so important to us (that is our biggest bugdet item after the Inn). My engagement shots with her are coming up in a week and I am so excited!

The first room when you enter off of the driveway is being re-done. They are knocking out the ceiling and raising it another story, then they are putting in a skylight and a spiral staircase.

The stairs will lead up and around to the upstairs CH room. Frank also said that the restaurant will be closed off. I really like this because the few times i've been there there have been weddings but lots of random people milling around, so hopefully with everything separated it will make the wedding seem more intimate (with less strangers walking around).

a fountain?!?!?! really! it sounds cool, but i hope it's not too over the top....

Re: inn at nhp showcase

Frank did mention the plans for the new entry way when FH and I booked...Did he say when they will be ready with that?

Kristina2009 Posted:

Re: inn at nhp showcase

That entrance room sounds nice. I do like how it is now though but I suppose they need to have access to the cocktail room upstairs. Will it be done in time for our weddings?

I def. like the idea of closing off the restaurant too and that should not be too much work.

I dont know if the fountain story is true. I heard it from another bride who looked there. I doubt they would put anyting overwhelming or obstructuve in there.

I feel like I should stop in there soon and ask some questions. it seems like the plans have changed since I booked in October and i would love to see the gardens in the summer!

Re: inn at nhp showcase

Maybe we should all go there for dinner...FH says it's too expensive to eat there..LOL I think I have to go there soon too to ask questions...Again any word on the bed and breakfast?
