Insemination

this post is not ment to offend anybody, I am asking out of shear ignorance, lol. This month 2 girls that I work with both received the fantastic news that they are expecting. however but had gone to fertility specialist and were inseminated with their husband's sperm. When I brought this up to a co worker she said that her niece also concieved like this. My question is, what is the purpose of this? I know that neither girl is very activie sexually with their spouses. I think they do this so they don't have to 'try' with their husbands. The specialist charts them and they make the appt for when they are ovulating. If it is a syringe or your husband 'discharging' what is the difference? It is still sperm finding the egg. Thanks for any input

Re: Insemination

Ummmmmmmmmmmmm, I did two inseminations and it certainly wasn't to get out of BD'ing with DH

Its usually done if a couple has been trying for a long time without any results, or if there are known problems (ie. low sperm count, hormonal problems, uterine problems, ovarian cysts, etc) Just giving it that extra oomph

In my case there were tubal problems, and the inseminations were done using a catheter which would bring his 'guys' right into my uterus to wait for my egg.

Unfortunately my egg was not making it there. So, now we move on to IVF.

Re: Insemination

This is definately NOT to avoid $ex, at least I have never known anyone who would go thru all of that and expense not to BD with the man they love. Some women do this in order to have a child when they do not have a spouse or if they are gay.
I also think a low sperm count could make this method more sucessful then traditional $ex.
