(Insert a million  faces here)

FH and I recently found out that a member of his family refuses to come to the wedding because we're an unholy union.

'Splain to me why we have to go to every function this dickhead has, then?

We're actually a bit glad, because a) we only want people there that support us and b) he's a killjoy.

I'm a little concerned because this guy has the power to sway other members of the family, so while I was back to thinking that our guest list was fine to support our minimum, if he urges people to not attend, we might be below our min.

But that's not worth stressing about.

I've never liked people that can't think for themselves anyway, so if others choose not to come because of him, so be it.

Clearly he's never learned the values of acceptance and tolerance in his religion...which, if he was so knowledgeable about it, he would also find that a relationship between FH and I isn't ideal in the eyes of Islam BUT it is accepted.

Been through the same thing - but based on race - it's annoying. I'm sure there will be lots and lots of people there who do support you!!!

sounds like good news to me (the fact that he won't be coming, not the fact that he's not tolerant lol)

Ugh!!! It's better to just surround yourself in positivity-you're better off without him.

If he changes his mind and decides to show up, be sure you point him out to me...so I can 'accidentally' spill my drink on him.

wow, well I say good riddance to bad rubbish!

Just ignore the fact that he's an *** and I doubt anyone else will follow him.

LOL, sorry to laugh but if yours is an unholy union, I wonder what mine is..I think they;d think I was the spawn of *****! hahaha.

FH is Latin and 9 years younger than me.

I'm divorced, white and Jewish...well sorta. We've been living in sin for like 5 or 6 years!

What an a$$, really! You will have a way better time without him or any of the mindless people he manages to sway.

I think you're better off without him there. We have several members of FH's family who will not attend for the same reason (orthodox Jews). We have had to deal with a lot over the years. I can sort of understand the people who are orthodox and are against it more than I can tolerate the people who have tried to sit us down and tell us horrow stories about interfaith couples breaking up and getting divorced and how screwed up the kids are. I find that to me more hurtful than someone just following their religious beliefs, however intolerant (or even ignorant of the actual religion's teachings) they tend to be.

You can always invite more LIW girls to meet your minimum..

Sorry, this is one of the last things you need to stress over. Like you said, it the people attending your wedding should be there to support you 100%.
IF, he does sway other people to not attend, then those weak minded people you both can definitely do without. Don't worry about making your minimum, we found 12 people last minute to invite. Things have a funny way working out.
