Anyone have any ideas why? Most of his tongue and the roof of his mouth is white? Is this from him being sick? Thanks!

From what I've read, it says that thrush covers the entire mouth? On the sides of his tongue and inside of his cheeks? His is only on his tongue and roof of his mouth. I hope it's not thrush?

Thrush is a yeast infection (a fungus) of the infant mouth, which can also affect the nursing mother's nipples and/or breasts from what I read about it

Re: Inside Caiden's mouth is white...
We went through a case of thrush when Maiah was little...it actually caused a yeast infection in my nipples (yuck! I know!) From what I remember, you can diagnose thrush by wiping away the white stuff with a wash cloth. If it wipes off and there is blood under there, then that's most likely what he has. Good luck!

Sounds like thrush to me. My son has it now, stupid me thought he had formula on his tongue all the time. At a well visit the dr. said he had thrush. He's been on meds now for almost a month and still has it, it's tough to get rid of. After every bottle and pacifier use, I have to wash and sterilize the bottles. It's nothing serious, just not easy to get rid of.

It sounds like thrush to me. My son had that. Its was so hard to get rid of. My son got it when my son's mother stopped breast feeding him, and started to feed him from a bottle.

What kind of medicine will he have to take? Can he still go to daycare? Do you think I can get a prescription for me from his Pediatrician or will I have to go to my OB/GYN? I'm afraid that I probably have it since I'm still BF? AAAaaaaaaaahhh.... as if the RSV wasn'y enough!

Re: Inside Caiden's mouth is white...
Angela had the same thing - my cousin who is a pediatric nurse told me it was probably thrush, I was paranoid bc I was breast feeding and thought I was going to get in on my nipples and have trouble feeding, with pain, etc. It turned out to be nothing, just white inside the mouth from the milk. It eventually went away. So, white is not always thrush, but it can be.

You need to call the Ped. Have you tried to use a wet washcloth to wash the white off? If it easily washes off then it is not thrush. He can go to daycare. DO NOT stop breastfeeding. You will both need treatment. You can speak to the Ped about it and she may be able to give you your treatment. It is not a difficult treatment. It is easier if you have it treated sooner rather than later.

Re: Inside Caiden's mouth is white...
Mine didn't wipe off easily, so they gave me the medicine over the phone, which I put on for a week, like 4 times a day (it really is easy, no big deal, and the baby doesn't really mind it). but, then when we finally went in for a visit, he said it wasn't thrush afterall. But, especially if you're breast feeding, better to be safe than sorry and call the pediatrician.
