Do you need to own a house in order to get insurance for your ring or is there an insurance company that will give you insurance just for the ring.
What company & how much is it?!
Thanks in Advance <3

Re: Insurance for the 'ring'
I've been trying to figure out the same thing since my ring was custom made and not bought at a chain store where they offer insurance packages.
The only thing I've been able to come up with so far is adding it as a rider to renter's insurance... which I don't have, but am thinking of getting just to be able to insure the ring. Depending on where you live and your credit rating, it can be around $200 a year, which isn't bad in NY.
HTH, let me know if you fnd out another way!

Re: Insurance for the 'ring'
You can get a standalone policy for the if you don't have homeowners insurance or renters, but it's generally more expensive that way, and not all carriers will offer that. Depending on the cost of the ring (you need to get a certified appraisal first) the insurance will run you between $200-$300 per year. If I ever get my a$$ in gear I'll get my appraisal done so I can add it to my renter's policy!! HTH!

Re: Insurance for the 'ring'
Ladies,
If we can teach you ONE thing today its this:
You CANT live without renter insurance.
Period.
Period.
I have had it for the past 9 yeasr living on my own in my apartmant. My FH has it. It not something you can live without.
And when you have renters its really not expensive to addd a ring. It cost me $130 for my grandmothers $12,000 ring.
Get renters insurance on Tuesday. Add the engagement ring to the policy.

I still live with my mom, so no renters insurance- BUT I have State Farm Car insurance and I was able to add it on to that- really affordable and so worth it because I now I have no worries!

Check out Jeweler's Mutual. It's specifically for jewelry insurance, and you can do everything via internet and email....you just need a copy of your appraisal.

Re: Insurance for the 'ring'
FH owns a home so we put it on the house insurance ASAP. It's a little on the pricey side costing $72 a month! That's what I pay for car insurance. I'm going to start doing some shopping around

Re: Insurance for the 'ring'
No matter what kind of policy you already have- renters, car, homeowners etc, you should always add the ring on a as a separate item, and not just onto your existing policy.
Reason being is that you get your ring appraised and you give that dollar amount to the insurance company along with the cut, clarity color and weight-- let's say for argument's sake the ring is appraised for 25K -- if the ring is stolen, lost etc. and you have the ring on an add on to your existing policy the insurance company looks at the appraisal and they let you know when they believe you can replace the ring for at a comprable 'market' price. That is all they give you--- but we all know that just because a diamond is listed with similar 4c's doesn't mean that it looks the same as what you really had!
If you have a separate jewelry policy for it you are given the dollar amount that it appraised for to replace it.
So- you get your full appraisal amount if it's separate. We learned this when we first started our policy and have shared it with many since then! Most are shocked-- as were we!!
I say go for a separate policy to protect yourself 100%!

I used Jewelers Mutual. All you need to do is get an appraisal of your ring and apply online. I'm paying a pretty decent price for a years worth of coverage. HTH

Re: Insurance for the 'ring'
We don't have a house yet and we have an apartment in my dads house so no insurance for that but we went through All State....you don't need any kind of major insurance to get it....I think I pay $80 a year for it...you just get your ring appraised, send that appraisal to them along with a formt they give you and they send you your packet...really easy and affordable!

I got my ring insured through State Farm. I pay $150 a year for the stand alone policy and it covers the ring fully.

Re: Insurance for the 'ring'
I have mine insured through State Farm. My parents own the house I live in but I didn't have to show proof they had insurance or anything. I had to prove what my legal residence is and that was all.
I got the best quote from them and I felt a little more comfortable with them- just personal preference.

Re: Insurance for the 'ring'
We insured all of our rings through Jewelers Mutual online. Very fast and easy. Not sure I love the price bec its a couple hundred a year but its soooo worth it and needed. Price depends on how much your rings are worth.
