Insuring my ring

Insuring my ring

How do I go about getting my ring insured? It was bought in Barbados and I do not have access to the receipt, my FH's mom has it!

You need to have it appraised, preferrably by a G.I.A. certified place (I think that's the acronym) or the other big diamond group whose name escapes me right now. Then, if you have homeowners or renters insurance, they can put a rider on the policy for your ring. I haven't found any company willing to insure the ring without it being attached to another larger policy. FM me if I'm unclear. I'm sure someone else can explain better, it's really late and I should force myself to go to sleep already!

I had my ring appraised at Bunty's over in Smithtown (a flat $35 fee). I would suggest using them if you can, but if not, then call the jewelers before going there. Some will charge you based on the ring and personally I feel they may not give you an accurate appraisal then!

My ring is insured through Chubb. It's the only thing I have insured through them, but they came highly recommended to us, and I feel that the policy is well worth it.

FM if you need more information.
