I don't recall all of the information but we had to get renter's insurance and then add the ring onto that. We did it through State Farm. I assume it is different if you own your home!

I used Chubb and was quoted $133 per year - it covers everything except -acts of war, intentional damage and wear/tear. It does cover theft and loss! They were great to work with~

I got insure through our house insurance (Liberty Mutual) and I think it only cost an extra $250 a year. I am not sure though, DH took care of this because I did not want to know how much the ring is appraised for so he called the insurance company so they would not ask me any questions.

Edited to add insurance company

Get the ring appraised and give the appriasal to your insurance company. If you have homeowners or renters insurance they can add it to the policy for a minimal cost. If you don't have any existing policies to insure it it may be a little more expensive but not much.

I have my ring insured through Allstate. We have our renters through them and we took out a separate personal articles policy.

The price of the policy depends on the value of the ring.

We went through Chubb also! Seems to cover the most from what I read. With my appraisal, I wanted to ensure that EVRYTHING was covered. And if I lose the ring, or as they put it 'mysterious disappearance' they will give us the value of the ring in cash, and we don't necessarily have to get the same ring or even a replacement, which was nice also.

Re: insuring your e-ring?

FH got it done through Jeweler's Mutual. I think it cost a little over $100 a year and it does cover everthing except for acts of war and nuclear blasts or government seizure (it actually says all that in the policy). FH said he got a specific type of insurance so that if something happens to the ring the company has to replace it with the exact same ring (or as close to possible). I guess there are some insurance companies that just have to give you a ring of similar value or cash.

Also becareful of some homeowners/renters insurances. If we got my ring covered with homeowners it would only cover lost or theft from the house.... Since I am not only in my house we went with seperate jewelery coverage. HTH.

Re: insuring your e-ring?

FH insured my e-ring through the homeowners insurance policy that we have with liberty mutual. He had just switched to them to from State Farm and the guy gave him a good deal. It's something like $75 a year and my ring is 2.5 carrots TW so I think that's the cheapest we found. State farm charged $50 for every $1000 that the ring was worth...really cheap and totally needed!! We didnt have to have the ring appraised b/c it came with an I.R.E (insurance replacement estimate) from the store. Also, when we bought my ring we got a warranty thing where the diamonds are guaranteed for the life of the ring. So basically if a diamond chips or falls out and gets lost....I get a new one. I just have to get it inspected every 6 months in case something is lose. I highly recommend having it insured b/c you never know what can happen. It's just a nice safety net to have. I'm going to add my wedding band on there as well once we purchase that.

We had my ring appraised from Macy's. The only one that does it is the one in heralds square. FH was very happy with the appraisal.

We use Liberty Mutual for my e-ring insurance and have been happy with them. We added it to our renter's insurance policy.
