I heard they are expensive and not really sure if I want one/need one.

Re: Intefaith Brides - are you getting a ketubah?
We skipped it. To be honest, I'm not all that religious and I didn't feel it was necessary.

Absolutely! After reading about it, I felt it wa so beautiful. We'll be having a more equal one made up with writing in hebrew and english. It dones't HAVE to be expensive. I'm sure there are places that sell them cheap, if they're not custom made, and you can always just make one yourself. You can hire a calligrapher and decorate it yourself, or you can just print it out on the computer and mount it in a pretty frame. The reason they're so expensive and so done up is because of a jewish tradition of ceremonial objects and anything used in a religious form being beautiful, but it can be beautiful and inexpensive!

I was going to originally but then changed my mind due to cost. Then I came across one that FH and I LOVED! so we're thinking about it again.

actually, the reason why they're expensive is because its art. some can cost $95 and I've seen others than were well over $1000. just depends how well known the artist is.

Yes, and the reason they are made as works of art is because ceremonial objects are to be made beautiful But you don't have to get them down by an artist, you can improvise.
ketubah.com has them starting at $100 if that helps anyone. I think $100 for a very special keepsake is well worth it!

We are not an interfaith couple but here's a funny story. Mom and Dad had their civil license processed (49 years ago) but mom tells me that according to her Ketubah, she may have married the Rabbi. Dad never signed it. Strategic move? Hmmm. I don't know but the house is in MOM's name. BWAH!!!!
