Its a bunch of BS that creationists came up with so they can push religion in schools.
Sorry, don't mean to offend anyone but I feel very strongly about this.

Re: Intelligent Design...

It appears to be a combination of evolution and creationism.

Are there any teachers that have to include this in their curriclum?

ETA: I'm reading an article about it and was curous.

I used to be a teacher, and if I had to teach it, I would quit. There is absolutely no scientific basis behind it. Our president, however, has said he supports is being taught.

I don't understand how science teachers incorporate creationism into their curriculum.

Creationism is based on a leap of faith.

The theory of evolution is based on empirical evidence.

I don't know a lot about it, but it sounds like they are trying to get religion back in public schools through a 'back door' method.

No, there is no evolution in intelligent design. Its a way to disguise creationism to look like a science so they can push it in schools, but it's really not. Their big thing is placing stickers in all biology texts saying 'evolution is an unfounded theory and has yet to be proven true.' Same sticker needs to be put in bibles, if you ask me.

Me too. I don't want anyone to be offended by my last post, but I do feel strongly about this as well.

I actually feel strongly about my religion, but don't think it should be in public schools either.

Exactly, public schools are meant for everyone, which means you can't bring in religion without bringing in ALL the religions, and then that just gets crazy. Plus, it would have to be from a theology point of view and would have to be completely neutral.

Re: Intelligent Design...

I was raised in the Bible Belt and had to endure being taught both Evolution and Creationism. I vividly remember being attacked by my whole class because 'I believe that we come from monkeys.' Another time we were instructed to bow our heads and pray. When I refused to do so I was sent to the principal's office. I felt isolated and stupid, but I refused to let a school system dictate to me my religious beliefs.

This type of 'teaching' is inappropriate and inexcusable. We live in a country founded on religious freedom and I will fight to keep it that way. If you want your child to learn about their religious beliefs in school put them in a private one, but don't force it into the public schools.

Heidi... you're a little bit like my hero now!

Also, was it you who mentioned the National Parks and creationism disclaimers a while back?

Wow...you go heidla!

I never prayed along with the class, nor did I reciete the pledge of allegiance & got kicked out of catholic school in 2nd grade for asking how it was physically possible for Nebuchadnezzar to be hundreds of years old & not die.

Ever the skeptic, I was not buying the whole creationism story anyway, but I definitely would have had a greater issue if I had to learn it as part of a public school curriculum. And as for the 'editing' in the science books, if that is necessary then the entire bible needs to come with a caviat in the preface that it is merely an interpretation of stories (not necessarily historic) and by men who were not present at the events spoken about. Sorry, JMHO.

Re: Intelligent Design...

My teacher sent me to the principal in 3rd grade because I said 'hey, umm..in science class you're teaching us about dinosaurs and the big bang, etc' and in religon class (it was catholic school) you're teaching us about adam and eve and there were no dinosaurs ...which one are we supposed to believe? My teacher said 'umm..the religion one' I said 'then why do you teach us the other stuff in science class if it isn't true.'

I personally believe in my own version of 'intelligent design' I believe in evolution, but I believe that a higher power set it in motion and did have some kind of blueprint in mind. But creationism is not science and doesn't belong in science class.
