To all you 'inter-faith' brides who have completed pre-cana...please give me an idea of what to expect. I finally found a priest to co-officiate and I now have to go to pre-cana- I didn't even give it a thought. My fiance is VERY VERY shy and doesn't like to talk much in front of people. So, when he finds out about pre-cana, he is really going to be surprised-ugh!! I am not sure if it will be better for us in a group setting or one on one with the sponsoring couple. I would love some feedback and recommendations for inter-faith pre-cana sessions. I am totally stressing out!! Thanks!

Re: Inter-Faith Pre Cana- Help FH is going to 'freak'
We went through interfaith pre-cana with 22 other couples through St. Thomas the Apostle. We were pleasantly surprised and did enjoy it. You can talk as much or as little as you wish. It was about a day and a half and both our Msgr. and the Rabbi who will be officiating spoke. They talk about communication, how you will handle certain day to day challenges, combing religious customs and they bring in interfaith couples who have children and are raising their kids, some as Catholic some as Jewish, some intoducing to both. There were also some Catholic/ Budhist couples as well. Don't be nervous. Good Luck!!!!

don't worry, FI is not catholic & was not looking forward to pre-cana but we actually found it helpful. your FI doesn't have to speak at all if he doesn't feel comfortable. there was no pressure at ours. good luck!

When we finished Pre-cana, we realized it wasnt so bad. There were about 5 other couples. We dreaded every time we had to go, but after we left, we seemed to really enjoy it. Our sponsor couple was really nice and it turned out to be a lot of fun

I have a specific concern. My Fi is Hindu and I am Catholic. We want to expose our kids to both religions. At some point, we may select one religions for them but we have not made that decision since neither of us are very active in our respective religions. Is there pressure from the priest or during meetings? I had to sing a form that I would raise my kids Catholic but the priest just told me to sign it and didn't even let me read it (in fact he his the words with his hand) He was very liberal but I wonder if we are going to have problems. We said undecided about religion of our kids on the FOCCUS form

Re: Inter-Faith Pre Cana- Help FH is going to 'freak'
We are in a similar boat - FH is Catholic, I am not. We are getting married in a Catholic church. My understanding of obligations with respect to children is that the children must be baptised, and that FH must promise to do everything he can to raise the children Catholic. We have discussed this a lot (although we haven't done pre-cana yet). Our conclusion was that we would certainly expose our children to multiple religions. We will also baptise them. Ultimately, though, we will leave it to our kids to choose their own religion - e.g., children can choose to be confirmed in the Catholic church (or not). Breaking it down into stages helped me understand and accept the process more easily. Hope this helps.

Did you need to book the priest/rabbi first? did you get a priest to marry you outside the church? my FI is catholic and i am jewish. not sure where to begin but we want to do the interfaith pre cana.

We're in pre-cana now. There are 29 couples, and no one speaks really. We just listen. Actually, it's really interesting. FH says we should've done this 3 years ago

Just Curious...who is everyone using for the Cantor and Priest? My FH and I need to go through Pre-Cana but, we haven't met with the priest yet. We are using Father Billia and Cantor Foreman.
