Re: Interfaith Ceremonies

hang in there...its not as bad as it seems LOL I am jewish and FH is catholic and we are having an interfaith rabbi. She sat with us and let us plan what we wanted in the ceremony, so it can be as religous or spiritual as you want. We even choose to not have a priest b/c FH felt so comfortable with her and the ceremony we choose. I am sure there will be some people on his side who wont be happy but if they pay attention during the ceremony they will see that even though she's a rabbi, the ceremony is not a 'jewish' one. Hope this helps, any questions feel ree to FM me

Re: Interfaith Ceremonies

I am Jewish and FH is Catholic. Your ceremony is really up to you and your Officiant. We decided to have a reformed Rabbi perform a predominantly Jewish ceremony, but we are having a Unity Candle and a reading from the New Testament.

I found the book 'Celebrating Interfaith Marriages : Creating Your Jewish/Christian Ceremony' by Devon A. Lerner very helpful.

Re: Interfaith Ceremonies

We have talked about it, and would like a Rabbi and a preist, but now I heard a preist won't marry you out of the church. FH isn't comfortable getting married in a church, so we figured outside would be a neutral setting.
We didn't set a date yet, but we were thinking late April-Sept.

P.S. Thank you both. You have eased my mind a little. I will be looking for that book though

Re: Interfaith Ceremonies

We got married at our hall. We had an interfaith minister (Rev. Deb - highly recommended). We chose to have no religion in our ceremony, but she can work in whatever traditions you would like!

Re: Interfaith Ceremonies (Cathloic/Jewish)

I am bumping cause I need a little more help.
I know I don't have a problem, but it's my mother. She LOVES my FH, but religion wasn't an issue until now. When we spoke about it yesterday, She said I should discuss it with someone less emotionally involved than her. I am EXTREMELY independent person, but I am always looking for her approval.
I think I am going to speak to the deacon who married my best friend. Ask him his advise on his experience with interfaith marriages. And hopefully he can co-officiate with a rabbi.

Am I making myself nuts or do I have a valid concern??

We are also having a totally non religious ceremony.

I am catholic and FH is jewish.

We have a reverend who customized a ceremony for both of us.

My mother is the one who I think about when I go over this in my head. I know she is going to be upset. And she is WONDERFUL...this is just one thing she cares deeply about. I chose not to convert, and my FH did the same thing. I told her that and it still bothers her. GGGGGRRRRR

We are getting married at our RH in a private chapel (separate building!). It's not a catholic chapel.

You can get married at the hall or a chapel that is not affliated with any religion.

You will not be able to get a RC priest to marry you outside the church.
