Hello, I would like to be =married by a Catholic priest, in a Catholic Church, but my fiance is Lutheran. Is this going to pose an issue for us? I am clueless because we are at the very beginning of planning, so ANY info is helpful! Also, if we end up choosing to get married at the reception hall, will a Catholic priest do the ceremony there? It'll be in Nassau or Suffolk county but we do not have a location yet either. Thank you!!!

Re: Interfaith Marriage (Catholic/Lutheran)
I would say you need to meet with your church to talk about it with them... If you prefer to marry in the catholic church, they can usually accommodate a visiting (lutheran) priest....
Catholic priests won't conduct the ceremony outside of the church.

I am Catholic and DH is Lutheran...we were married in a Catholic church in a ceremony by a Catholic priest, you need to get a dispensation but it's easy.

You'll be able to get married in a Catholic Church, but there will be some prerequisites. It also depends on the church.
My brother married a Lutheran woman and they were going to get married at the church where we were brought up, but the priest wouldn't let her stand on the alter and wanted them to promise to raise their children as Catholics - which they weren't willing to do. It's a very old fashioned, traditional church.
On the other side, my friend is not Catholic, her husband is, and they got married in a Catholic church and had none of these issues. Our Lady of Lourdes in West Islip is very modern, and is more lenient with that type of stuff.

Re: Interfaith Marriage (Catholic/Lutheran)
I am Lutheran, and my FH is Catholic...I think I remember the Pastor of my church mentioning that if we had gotten married in a Catholic church, then I wouldn't be able to stand on the alter. I believe we would have to raise the children Catholic also, which is not what we want to do.
I would definitely contact the church you want to get married in, all churches are different..
Good luck!

You can also check out St. Patricks in Bay Shore. My best friend got married there and they were great

Thanks everyone! Great! we may have the reception at Capt. Bill's so St. Patricks would be perfect.

Interesting about the altar---my church (St Thomas More, Hauppauge) had no problem with DH sitting on the altar with me.

I've heard mixed things. I really think it depends on the church.
