Hi, FH and I are going to the Pre-Cana class with the Diocese of Brooklyn this weekend....is anyone else going?
Anyone have any tips? I'm Jewish and not really sure what to expect.

Re: (Interfaith) Pre-Cana this weekend
I haven't been yet - I have my Inter-faith Pre-Cana in Sept. From what I've heard its a lot of talking about blending your backgrounds and the challenges of raising an interfaith family. Good luck though!!!

I went to this one.
It actually wasn't a lot of talk about bloending backgrounds or raising and interfaith family.
The first night is just a Catholic prayer service, songs and readings, and a little introduction from the leaders. You'll each write a love letter to the other.
The second day is really you mainly just interact with your FH. The main couple will do some talking about a topic, like fighting, and how they handled it in their marriage, and you'll each go to different parts of the room to fill out differnet sheets about fighting, family, holidays, etc, and then come back to share each worksheet and discuss it ONLY with each other. There may be some wrap up discussion, but you won't have to share it with everyone. It's very private and for the two of you. We had mainly Carlos and Anna, who are not really interfaith per se, so your milage may vary, but they did mention about respecting other traditions and how it's harder, etc, but it was a lot more about making MARRIAGE work than anything to do with either religion or both religions.
Then you eat a yummy lunch,
Then you go into another room for more discussions and a video on natural family planning (very poor production value..lol!) and you go off to read the love letters to each other. Then you get your certificate and your ceremony planning materials and you go home.
Completely painless and we LOVED it.
As the Jewish SO, you really won't feel out of place. The main part that pertains to religion is the prayer service, but hopefully since you're marrying a Catholic you've been to mass a few times and it won't be so foreign to you.
I feel they did a good job of respecting other faiths and making the non Catholic partners comfortable

Thanks for the rundown!
Anyone know if there's any kind of dress code? Shorts or no shorts, jeans, etc? Thanks!

Heh...Mass...do a couple of weddings, a baptism, and a confirmation count? Not that FH has ever gone to Synagogue with me. Plus you know, we plan on raising the kids mostly Jewish.
