Interfaith PreCana - We went, and it was.....

Interfaith PreCana - We went, and it was.....

... a wonderful 2 days. We are a RC and Reform Jewish couple. The main speakers were RC and Jewish, and they were great.

Monsignor Beckman is the LI Interfaith RC representative, and he was so helpful. I also found out that due to some 'interpretation' of the dispensation, there is no reason why I can't have a priest marry us.

The course discussed a lot of stuff we had already discussed, but really reinforced the need for communications, romance, honesty, all the good stuff.

If anyone wants more information, please forum me. I will be more than happy to advise / explian the course.

BTW - I was so annoyed with the lack of support I was getting from the RC church about getting a priest, that we almost did not go, and I am so so happy we did.

You attended a two day interfaith pre-cana? Mine was only one day and held by a RC couple...this was one of the things that bothered my FI and I. I really would love to hear about yours. We almost wish we could go again because we feel it just didn't give us enough time to cover the interfaith issues.

It was a great experience, there was a lot of discussion about both faiths. We were in a unique situation where all 13 couples were RC/ Jewish. The last one had RC / Jewish / Hindu / Buddist.

It was run by the Diocese of RVC 516-678-5800 x.223

The next one is in June

I'm almost upset by the fact that we couldn't attend this one...we didn't even know it existed! The one we attended had all interfaith couples (not just RC/Jewish), and we had to engage the discussion about two different religions, it was barely touched upon by the couple running it. While it was very good, and informative, we really wished it had been run by an interfaith couple.

Something to look into...

Thanks!

It seems like it went well for you, I'm glad you had a good experience.

Yes it did, and the dispensation wording can be interpreted in many ways - that the RC will do 'everythiung in their power to baptise the childrn' does not mean that you are legally bound to do this. The individual signing the paperwork is only one half of the couple, and doing everything in your power does not mean that you are answering for both of you

My FH and I also attended the interfaith pre-cana this weekend. We both enjoyed it very much and he told me I should post something on this site to let everyone know how wonderful it really was. It was so nice being with other couples that were going through the same thing as us (finding a rabbi, questions about raising children, etc).

If anyone has questions, please feel free to forum email me too.
