also, do we HAVE to get a challah cover for it? or can we just use a napkin.
(i don't really want to do it... but FH may want to. His family seems to think this is a jewish wedding, not an interfaith....)

Re: interfaith ques. regarding challah
All it is is a blessing over bread - like saying grace. There's nothing in the HaMotzi that would conflict with any religion:
'Blessed are you, Lord our G-d, Ruler of the universe, who brings forth bread from the earth'
I think that's a pretty good translation, but I can be corrected. At the very least, that's the basic gist of it. Someone special to you can say grace as well, that would make it more interfaith. I would suggest that the two faiths EMBRACE each other, rather than reject each other, as hard as I know that is.
As for the Challah cover, using a napkin would personally offend me (but that doesn't really matter since I'm not going to be at your wedding). It might offend some of your Jewish guests. You don't need to spend money on it though, just ask your FMIL if she has a Challah cover you can use. The whole thing doesn't need to be covered.
ETA: This is also a good way to work in a special honor for an uncle or grandparent or something. We are honoring our Uncles in this way.

Re: interfaith ques. regarding challah
We are interfaith as well.. I wanted to incorporate both religions throughout the ceremony and the reception. We are doing the challah and grace. And as princessrose stated, some jewish guest may be offended by using a napkin and the religions should embrace each other's customs and not reject..interfaith marriage can be complicated enough without addiing additional issues from the getgo FH grandfather will be doing the blessing of the challah, and he was overjoyed that we asked him to do such an event..

Re: interfaith ques. regarding challah
believe it or not, it was FMIL that said 'why don't you just use a napkin?' Jeez... i know more about her religion than she does. (she didn't know what a ketubah was!!!)
she didn't even think of getting the yarmulkes... i did!!! (just annoys me she can be so high and mighty about incorporating Jewish traditions, but yet she doesn't even know what they are!!!) she just wants to do these things for the wrong reasons. (can you tell she's aggrevating me lately??? )
i guess we'll do it then. And have my dad say a blessing too (he's a Protestant minister)
(and about the rejecting religion... it's mainly them doing the rejecting of MY religion!!! and its annoying me)

Re: interfaith ques. regarding challah
Hey, I sympathise.
FH was brought up Conservative, with a pretty high disdain for Reform Judaism. I'm Reform, and I'm more involved than he is!
It drives me nuts that he complains about our Menorah not being the right shape, but finds no problem in that his Mother served me OREO COOKIES during PASSOVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FMILs are crazy enough without throwing religion into it, there's no denying that. And I understand both sides - it's really rough to have an interfaith marriage, I don't envy you that task.
I think it's beautiful that you'll have the HaMotzi AND have your father say Grace. It will add a lot of special moments to your day.
