My FH and I are an interfaith couple. My parents have strongly suggested for us to be married by a Justice of the Peace. Both my FH and I would like to have a Preist/Minister & and a Rabbi. I am affraid that if we don't do as my parents wish that they will not help us with the cost of the wedding. I don't want to start any feud's. I have fought with my parents enough in my life but I am also not one to give in when it is for something I believe in (nor are my parents). The most frustrating part of this is that my parents are not (yet anyway) willing to even look into or even research what the ceremony would be like with both faith's represented. How do I explain to them that I would like both faiths brought together in one short ceremony to signify how my FH and I will be living our lives!? It's no longer about them and their wishes for their duaghter's future but a representation of what our future will be.
Any suggestions - comments or even suggestions of Interfaith service providers would be helpful.
Thanks - Oh and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!

Re: Interfaith wedding
Maybe they could go with you to discuss the ceremony plans and you al could make the decision together. The ceremony is important and you should be happy with it.

Re: Interfaith wedding
This can be a sticky situation, but you have to really stand by your guns and let both sides know that they will each be represented. I'm am in the same situation so i know exactly what you are going through.
I took the ground of representing each side, but then for me it was also, everyone is blessing this marriage and with that blessing they have agreed that interfaith was not an issue.
As far as a ceremony location, you can always use the reception hall, or some place we looked at were the CW Post Chapel and the Planting Fields.
HTH, if you want more info FM me.
Happy New Year and Good luck!

Re: Interfaith wedding
I'm sorry to hear that your in that situation. My friends sister is catholic and married someone who was jewish. They got married in the church, but had a rabbi there as well. You should really do what you and your FH feel is right. Good luck!!!

Re: Interfaith wedding
I would sit down and have a talk with them about it. FH and I are thinking of minister/rabbi as well, but it wont be as big an issue. I am sure they will understand, and respect the decision to honor both faiths in the ceremony.

Re: Interfaith wedding
Why don't the both of you go visit with a Rabbi who works with a priest and talk to them both first and tell them the situation. Then I would bring both sets of parents to visit with them as well. Don't tell them where you are taking them if need be. We are going to use Rabbi Renee Feller and she works with a priest and will marry you outside the church or temple. http://www.rabbireneefeller.com/ They are great. Good Luck

Re: Interfaith wedding
Thank you everyone for your feedback so far. The problem with just bringing my parents somewhere is that my parents live out of town. When they do come to visit if i just brought them somewhere to discuss this with out telling them - it's like asking for a fight.... I guess if people can start providing web links to people that do these services or any opinion sites that discuss this I can start by emailing some information....
Thanks.

Sorry you are going though this. This issue was the biggest headache for me in wedding planning. You have FM.
