Interfaith Weddings..w/ poll

For those of you who are having an interfaith (Jewish / ____) wedding in a Hall or at your Reception, is your FH wearing a yarmulka? Thanks

As you can all see....I am becoming very overwelmed with this subject. This is my 3rd post about this. Sorry if I am being annoying.

I am not take the poll, as my DH is Jewish.

However, none of the groomsmen were Jewish and all of them wore yarmukles.

We're trying to keep the ceremony as non-religious as possible. We're doing a sand ceremony and a wine ceremony so that both religions will get one traditional thing. We're also breaking the glass.

FH is not wearing a yarmulke nor is anyone else.

I am in the same position as you, but my FH already agreed out of respect for me and my family to wear one. We are getting married by a Rabbi only also. I don't know if I would make the Best Man wear one or anyone else

I think I will get them and leave them out, so anyone that felt they wanted to wear one, can.

I never even thought to ask my DH if he would wear one. he's not Jewish, so why bother.

I'm doing interfaith (Bad Catholic/Aethiest) and didn't take the poll, but I wanted to just say...

You're not being annoying - this is what these boards are here for! Beside have you seen the number of stripper threads - . we talk about that all the time.

My side is Christian, FH's side is Jewish, so just he & his Jewish groomsmen will be wearing them. The groomsmen that are from my side will not be wearing them. Basically, if the guy is Jewish, he'll wear one. If he's not, he won't wear one.

Hi...I think it's ok for the Jewish groom and his jewish GM to wear them and any jewish male family members.

I am interfaith also - I am Catholic - FH is Jewish. We are actually having a hard time agreeing on this as well....I do not want them put out for the guests at all. I feel like a lot of my people will not know what is appropriate and may feel like they have to wear one which I don't want them doing. So I just want my FH and his family members to wear them - but he wants to put a basket of them out. I also feel this will sort of really separate the room...like jews on one side, non-jews on the other. I just am very against putting a basket of them out.

Original poster - what are your feelings on this???

we are having an interfaith wedding... and no he is not (i'm jewish and hes catholic). we are having an interfaith rabbi and no priest, so Fi feels like it may be to much for his family to also see him in a yamulka too (plus he's not jewish so he doesn't really feel right getting married in it). We are trying to be as fair as possible. Plus FI is also going to do the ring exchange in hebrew (and english of course), and he's been so great with everything else, i feel like its not a big deal to me if he wears one. Whenever he comes for the jewish holdiays or to temple he always puts one on out of respect for me and my family, but this is different

However i will have them out for whomever wants to wear one, i know my dad and brother and my side will prob put them on.

also, my step-mom is catholic and her side will also put them on, they always do for the holidays and I know this won't be any different, infact two of my cousins who are holding the chuppah are greek orthodox and i know my aunt is going to make sure they wear one :) While i cant tell anyone what to do, i think the right thing is to put them out, b/c if someone wants to wear it they will and if not they won't. But out of respect for my side FI made sure we did it to offer the option.

that is HUGE that he is speaking in Hebrew for you! I give him credit being I am Catholic - I could never!

i know, he is amazing. When the rabbi asked, Fi was like sure, he was just nervous he wouldnt say it right and that he would mess up LOL )me to though).
I have a very unique family, we are mixed of many religions and everybody is very open to everything, i go to church every x-mas eve out of respect for my step-mom and of course temple for the jewish holidays/ FI isn't very religious (his family is though) and we are even going to raise the chidlren jewish (but celebrate easter, x-mas)

We were married by a Rabbi and we essentially had a Jewish ceremony. DH wore a yarmulke as did the rest of his family (not Jewish). He also decided he wanted to say part of the traditional vows in Hebrew. Talk to your FI and see how he feels about wearing one.

I am Catholic and FH is Jewish. Because we don't want to 'offend' anyone with both our family and friends we are keeping our ceremony very neutral. We had to adapt so we also respect both our beliefs (FH and me).

We are both Jewish but most of our male guests Jewish or not wore the Yarmulkes. It was out of respect and tradition.

They didn't have to-also we got married in a Synogogue.

And speaking Hebrew for the wedding even though you are not Jewish is quite an accomplishment, however you don't have to observe one religion or another to speak another language.

Re: Interfaith Weddings..w/ poll

well said :) I have to be honest, i was a little shocked when he said he wanted to speak hebrew, however, when we go to temple he always tried to recite and speak in hebrew (its so cute and funny to hear him try) so i guess i shouldnt be too surprised. I just hope his family doesn't flip out!! But we are also doing a unity candle for the moms (more a catholic belief) and the wine ceremony in hebrew and explainingn the meaning for the catholic side too, and having a reading fromm both the new and old testiment. PHEW...its hard trying to accomadate everyone
