International Guests

What are you ladies doing with your STDs and invites for international guests? My original thought was to not send STDs to international people at all but to just send the invites super early (like 6-8 months ahead of time). This way I'll save on postage plus I feel like STDs are a US thing so they may get them and be like what the heck is this!!! lol But then on the other hand I don't want them to not get a cute little magnet with our pictures on it

Help???

I sent dave the dates to all of our international guests. For a few people who I knew probably wouldn't come, I included a note that we would be honored if they could come, but don't want anything from them whether they could or could not attend.

I also sent save the dates to my international guests. I have less than 5 though, so the postage didn't make too much of a difference.

I'm not as concerned with the postage it's more them not knowing what it is (the saving $ was just an extra bonus). And maybe I should have mentioned that it's FH's family; most of whom he hasn't seen since he was like 10.

yeah - I'm not sure. My guests are from Canada and Australia - they knew exactly what it was.

I think a Save the Date is pretty self explanitory.. it says 'Save the Date' and formal invite to follow so I am sure interntional guests will know what it means after reading it.

Also something to consider: a save the date is used to give your guests plenty of notice if they want to book an international flight - or start looking so they can save $$ and find the best deal. There is no timeline to stds - they're informal and you can send them out whenever. However, the guideline to invitations is typically around the 3 month mark.
