My fiance and i got engaged on 9/11/11. I've been browsing this website and message board for a few months because we've been talking about getting married for a few months now. Just wanted to say hi to everyone...Hi!
We're planning on getting married in September or October of 2012. We plan on inviting 80-100 guests.
Now comes the vent. I guess this routine for all new brides...I started calling around to reception halls this weekend and WOW!! these prices...just WOW! So far, I've called Chateau Briand, Somerley at Fox Hollow and Bridgeview Yatch Club. The guaranteed miniumum seems to be 150 guests and the lowest I've been quoted is $95 for a Friday night.
Neither of us wanted to have a big wedding, but my fiance's mother sure wouldn't mind(she will be contributing). Either way, I really don't want to invite 150 people to my wedding. We started with a total budget of $10,000, went up to $15,000 and are now up to $20,000. I just have a problem spending all that money on just one day, you know, on principle.
We are looking for somewhere that is a bit modern and elegant, but cozy. Any help from you girls would be greatly appreciated.

Westbury Manor and Swan Club can accommodate your wedding and are reasonably priced.

I would suggest Crestwood Manor. Their min is 100 people. I think their pricing starts around 85 but i was able to neg with them. I trimmed down the cocktail hour and get a way better price.
This!

Congratulations on your engagement, and welcome to your newest addiction!!!
I did my wedding for just under $20k at Smithtown Landing Country Club, and would choose them again any day! Definitely worth a shot to check them out!

we didn't end up booking there, but H on the Harbor sounds like your kind of place (modern but cozy). They weren't too expensive for Sundays in March.

Congrats and welcome! When we first got engaged, I wanted to have the wedding in Delaware (my parents bought a house there) where everything is tax-free and a lot less money! Didn't think I could afford having my wedding in LI, but after looking at the long island catering halls guide (VERY VERY helpful!!!!!!) saw some of the price ranges were within our budget. It also depends on time of year; for example, Sept and Oct are still considered wedding season, and prices from Jan to May are usually a bit lower in comparison. We got a great price for our May 6th wedding because a) it is a Sunday and b) it's in May.
See if you can move it to November and on a Sunday, and you'll notice how much more affordable things become

Thanks for the kind words ladies. Would moving to November make a difference? I have no problem with that (although I hate the cold) but my Fiance said that he doesn't want November. I don't think he understands how expensive weddings can get.
I'm Nov 10th - and it is way less then 95 pp :) Call the watermill!

Congrats and Welcome. It is hard to find a place for just 100 guests. Don't feel the need to up your guest list to find a RH. Try checking out Jericho Terrace.

I'm doing a day time wedding at Chateau Briand for 75pp on a Sat. I was quoted 90pp for a Sunday night. These are Sept pricing. We went with the day time wedding because we get everything the sunday night has for 15 a head cheaper! You may want to consider that.
