Ok, FH and I have been engaged for about a year and our parents still haven't met. Needless to say we're going to have to do it sooner or later so I need some suggestions.
I live in Commack but I can't seem to think of a restaurant that has good food and an atmosphere we can enjoy through the awkward silences (his parents are real stiffs and mine are very outgoing and loud). I need a happy medium.
Also, it needs a bar in case it goes really bad and I have to start drinking and doing shots to make it through :)
Thanks girls!!!

Re: Introducing the parents....
Since I haven't lived on LI in years I have no idea about the specific restaurant scene, but here in Dallas, there are so many Fondue restaurants popping up that are very cool. You order and pretty much do the fondue thing from apps. to desserts. It is a very cool atmosphere where you are not just sitting at a table forced to focus on conversation. The distraction of the fondue process where you cook your own food in the oil makes for an easy night of conversation and distraction. Kind of along the lines of a perfect first date place...not too much pressure since there are other things going around. I would think LI would have something like this. Just a suggestion!

That sounds awesome - too bad there isn't anything like that here - at least that I know of.
His mom is diabetic and dad have triple bypass so they don't eat 'heavy'. It makes my choice a bit harder.
Wish FH and I already lived in the house we bought - it would solve everything.
Would it be bad if they just met at the tasting 4 months before the wedding

Re: Introducing the parents....
we've been married 6 months, and our parents have met three times. dads met at the bachelor dinner, moms met at the shower, parents all met at the rehearsal dinner and the wedding.

Re: Introducing the parents....
When our parents met it was a trip that Fi and I had planned to Atlantic City. it was so much fun and there was numerous things to talk about all the time.
Imo, I don't like the restaurant idea, it feels so awkward to sit across and face someone you don't know. It is even more awkward when there is absolutely nothing to talk about and that usually happens in restaurants (unless something funny happens )
I like the idea of doing it during the tasting, it gives everyone something to talk about (the wedding). Afterwards, you should take them out to drink or coffee. Somewhere they can really talk now since they have become more acquainted. We are taking only the mothers to the tasting.
Good Luck Planning

Re: Introducing the parents....
We had a meet the parents night at FSIL's house. We had the bridal party and our parents there. OK we used our bridal party as a buffer incase my parents got in a fight but it was a lot more relaxed at someones house.
If you really want a restaurant in Commack area:
Mannino's Commack Rd. Bonwit Inn Commack Rd. Skipper's Main Str Npt
All 3 have bars in them though Mannino's is very small and can be seen throughout the restaurant--- Good Luck

Re: Introducing the parents....
Someone suggested this in another thread, but Greenfields in Melville is an excellent place, with excellent atmosphere to break up the monotny. Its brazilian barbeque of all different meats that they bring to the table once you put your stopper to green. (they stop when you turn it to red) All side dishes and salads are buffet style, they have a really pretty water wall, etc. You can eat as heavy or light as you want, there is a bar and if you can't find anything to talk about, there's always whats going on in the restaurant!

Re: Introducing the parents....
I don't have a restaurant suggestion, but one thing that me and my FI did to break the ice was to bring baby pictures along, just in case the conversation became icky. Good luck!

Re: Introducing the parents....
I see that Jenn can feel my pain. I am so dreading this. His parents aren't the greatest and mine are so incredible. FH just had a countdown to the day that they were leaving for vacation. Needless to say we've been putting it off b/c we know they aren't going to like eachother.
Maybe I should just wait for the tasting. At least we'll be at the place and we can talk about the place, how everything is going to go that day and talk about the house we are in the process of buying.
I have to say this is the worst part of the wedding so far (I'm very lucky!)
Allure - LOVE LaParma - that is where FH and I had our first date (3 years ago this coming Sunday)
