Be careful of this.. I was on the phone with FW around 11pm tonight and I was joking and I told her I could get her number and other info on her from Google. She said.. 'No you can't.' I told her.. 'Yeah, remember when I had you delete it.'
And well, she forgot to delete it.
If you are listed in the phone book, and you do a search on Google where you type your phone number in as the thing to search for, it will come up with your name, the number, and directions to your house!
I had deleted mine previously and tonight, I deleted the FW's and her Mom's.
You can delete it by going to the link that asks you if you want to be removed. Then you fill out the info and within 48 hours, you'll be off the list. I did it for me, for her and FMIL.
Just an FYI to you!

YES!!!!!!!! I heard about that a while ago and did it and found my info and have deleted it. it is creepy b/c so many stores ask you for your phone number while you are being rung up and you never know who is standing in line behind you. that is so scary!

It's not an April Fool's joke. I removed both mine and my mother's phone numbers from it about a year ago.

I don't think it's anything to get that upset about. If your phone number is listed in the phone book with your address any dudley do wrong could very easily find his way to your house with or without google.

The scary thing is that by typing in the number, it gives your name as well as your address. You are correct that if someone really want to get your information, they'll find it. However, google makes it easier.

The internet makes everything easier.
There have been reverse telephone directories that are like phone books for years (and now they are online as well) so with a just a phone number, your name address can be acquired.

Come on.. would I play an April Fool's joke on ya? Still.. I don't like the fact that unlike a regular phone book which just gives your phonenumber and adress.. this thing gives exact directions to your place of residence.
While your opinion is valid.. I still do not like the fact that this info is so easily available.

Re: Invasion of Privacy on Google
you could always get the person name/address and look up directions....not really that big of a deal, unless of course you dont' want anyone to find you!

Re: Invasion of Privacy on Google
Octgroom - I understand your concern and I agree it is much easier this way but it wasn't impossible before.
With your address you can get exact directions to your house. And even before the internet, it was possible to get your address with just a phone number. That's all I am trying to point out.

Re: Invasion of Privacy on Google
i deleted mine a while ago but i don't think it's an invasion of privacy. if you're listed in the phone book someone can just as easily pick it up and look you up. everything is electronic now so it makes sense that you can do this online. if you don't want your info on the internet, don't list yourself in the phone book.
