Invitation addressing ?????

Which is correct? Mr. and Mrs. John and Mary Smith Mr. & Mrs. John and Mary Smith or Mr. & Mrs. John and Mary Smith I may be obsessing over nonsense but I am giving my invites to the calligrapher this weekend and I just want to make sure

Another alternative

I addressed the outside envelope the same as Kathi, however we opted to be less formal on the inside envelope because we are either very good friends or family with everyone we invited. Our inside envelopes were addressed to: John and Mary. From what I have read if you are going to be less formal on the inside envelope you put the names alphabetically hence John and Mary.

OK that wont work...I have 1 envelope...and

I want to include the woman's name....so I guest the thrust of my quest is when to use the 'and' the '&' or does it not matter at all If it really doesnt matter which looks better

OK that wont work...I have 1 envelope...and

I would write it all out. In other words, use 'and' not '&'
