Invitation Addressing

Does anyone know how you are suppsoed to address and evelope when there is an apartment involved???

Mr. and Mrs. John Smith
230 30th Street, Apt. 3A
or
230 30th Street, Apartment 3A
or is it its own line, or no comma???

TIA!!

We wrote out Apartment on a separate line. Not sure if that's etiquette correct, but it seemed right.

Re: Invitation Addressing

In our case, this was what we did and what our calligrapher did based on the high falootin ettiquette books:

If there was a three line invitation the apartment number went on the same line with no word that actually says 'apartment' - that is understood:

Mr. and Mrs. John Smith
123 Main Street 25F
Anytown, USA 12345

HOWEVER

if there were two people invited on one invitation and they arent married, it became 4 lines and the apartment number was set off in the bottom left hand corner of the invitation.

That's how we did it, except I would write out that second New York so it reads 'New York, New York'
