If my friend has a longterm boyfriend, does his name go on the invitation? Or do i just put her name, and offer her a 'guest'?
TIA!

Re: Invitation addressing
If they had a serious long term boyfriend/girlfriend I put their significant other's name on the invite as well.

I say yes. I think it's more personal.

Re: Invitation addressing
technically, per emily post, if its the person's significant other, but they are not married, you should list his/her name. but it would still be correct to list 'and guest'

Re: Invitation addressing
what if you know that they have a long term bf, but they never really talk about him.... only here and there... and you dont know his last name... do you just leave it as her name + guest?

Re: Invitation addressing
I'm putting 'and guest' for all the friends i'm inviting just to be safe. My close friend just broke up with her boyfriend of nine (9) years - so I just figure its the safest way to uniformlly cover my bases and avoid an potential 'situations'.

hm, interesting. but what if they have been together for a while, would that be rude to label them as 'guest'?

Hey =) ... it depends on whether or not you are also friends with her boyfriend i.e would he get a separate invitation if they weren't dating?? But, I dont think it would be rude at all especially if thats the uniform you're following for all those invited and you can also preface it by talking your friend before hand - chances are if the invite is going to her home and he wont see it anyway... unless the live together?? If you're strongly debating the decision, talk to your friend beforehand and see what she feels most comfortable with. I think when you label 'and guest' you're already being considerate to the person you're inviting by letting them know they have the choice of attending with company but I dont think the 'guest' title specifically labels them in anyway so as to make them feel uncomfortable. Me and my fiancee attended his best freinds wedding two years ago and the invite sent to him refered to me as 'guest' even though we've were dating for four (4) years at the time but I understood because had it not been for my FH, I probably wouldn't have been in attendance - however when it came to the place cards I expected to see my name and the 'guest' was a little jarring especially since I've known/interacted with the couple since college. Even though I plan on inviting all my friends with 'and guest' if I know their dates name in advance I do plan on addressing them with the place cards. So that could also be another idea to compromise on your concerns. Hope this helps

If you know his name, I would put it.
I'm putting the names of boyfriends/girlfriends that I know and that have been together for awhile.
