I just got an email from the girl doing my invitations. Originally she was going to print the addresses onto the envelopes but that was when I needed a smaller quantity(around 50). I now need about 25 more then that & she said that if she does more than that they start looking messy. She can print clear address labels with the guests names & addresses for both the invitations and the thank you cards. Is that ok?

May I ask why 25 more would look messy? I am lost.

Re: Invitation addressing dilemma
Jodi- you can do them yourself. We did my brothers and they came out beautiful. Why would more be messy? I don't get it either. -Stephanie

Re: Invitation addressing dilemma
This was what she wrote....
What happens is when i print on to the envelopes, after about 50, the ink gets picked up and distributed onto the corners and other parts of the envelope due to the thickness of the paper and the ink coverage and it looks messy.
but she said it is my decision and that she will do it if I want.

Re: Invitation addressing dilemma
She can really just clean where the cartridge sits.
I'm really not crazy about labels on wedding invites...but that's jmo...

Re: Invitation addressing dilemma
That sound funny to me- why can't she do them in shifts then? I think it looks better on the envelope without the labels. Is this a friend of yours, or did you hire her?

I think in my etiq. book it says that invitations should NOT have labels on them.

What about labels for Thank-you's?

Re: Invitation addressing dilemma
Is this a friend helping you out, or are you paying for this service? If you're paying, I don't get it, is she only going to print 50 envelopes ever? Does she get a new printer every time she gets an order? Tell her that when you contracted her to do this work, that you expected the printing on envelopes, and that's what you would like. I'm really not a fan of labels on personal corespondence of any type, but if it's really a problem for her to print more envelopes, I guess it's ok for thank-yous. As long as it doesn't bother you. I would also suggest hand writing over lables, but that's just me.

Re: Invitation addressing dilemma
She is a friend of my SIL who I am paying to custom design & print my invites & thank you's. When we first talked she asked how many invites it would be & I had told her at that time it would be about 50 and she said with that small # she'd be able to print the addresses on the envelopes.

Re: Invitation addressing dilemma
Hmm....that's tough, I hate doing business with family and friends. Ask her if maybe she could run a blank envelope or paper through the printer after every ten envelopes she prints, this way the blank ones will pick up the ink? If a small bit of ink gets on the envelopes, don't sweat it, lots of times I get mail that's dirty from the post office sorting machines.

Re: Invitation addressing dilemma
I emailed her to see if she could split the printing in half since I now need 72 invites. I'll see what she says but if it is a problen then should I just have her print them?

Re: Invitation addressing dilemma
Can you print the extra 22? It's not hard, once you get the hang of it. Maybe if it's really a problem, have her print out the 50 most important, and use labels or hand print the ones for people who won't notice. My FH has a lot of bachelor friends who probably won't even read the invite :)

Jodi- I like somedaybrides idea- ask her to run blank paper through every now and then.

Re: Invitation addressing dilemma
You can print labels yourself. I'd bought Avery #8660 clear address labels and print them from our deskjet printer using MS Word. I don't understand how can they look messy? Prehaps, if you're using a deskjet printer you need to wait for the ink on the labels to dry otherwise they'll smudge. We'd cut costs rather than hiring a caligrapher or someone else to address the invites we'd did it ourselves. Just IMHO.

Re: Invitation addressing dilemma
I printed on my envelopes from my deskjet printer. I printed about 100 in a row, there is no reason for it to look messy. All of mine were perfect. Like the others said, why wouldnt she just do them in shifts? Somthing doesnt sound right

Re: Invitation addressing dilemma
IMO, She should clean her darn printer! I am in the business, and you don't deny someone business because you are too lazy to clean your printer! (no offense to your SIL friend) You are supposed to keep your printer clean anyways by cleaning the heads, and running blank somewhat sticky (cleaning paper) through to clean the roller! This is standard procedure in the graphic design business! If she refuses to do it, let me know, I will be willing to help you out.
Personally I don't think labels look nice on wedding invites. Either printed, or calligraphy looks the best.
