Invitation addressing etiquette?

Invitation addressing etiquette?

How are you supposed to address an envelope if,

the wife is the Dr and the husband is not?

I know if it was a man it's,
Dr & Mrs (husband first name) Last name.

If its a woman then what?

Mr & Dr (husband first name) Last name.

or

just skip the Dr. and write:

Mr & Mrs (husband firstname) Last name.

If both are doctors is it

Drs. (husband name) & (wife name) Last name ?

or Dr xxx xxxx & Dr xxx xxxx ?

Also if its a family is it
Mr&Mrs xxx xxxx
& Children

or
Mr & Mrs xxx xxxx
& Family

For a single female how are you addressing them??
Miss or Ms.? do you decide based on age? if so, what age?

Don't know what to do about the drs. but you can google it. I did Ms. instead of Miss. I think that is more for under 20. Some people put the kids names if they are over 18. Me personally just wrote The Smith Family. Don't stress it since the envelope gets tossed anyways.

Re: Invitation addressing etiquette?

Thanks for the input sjr.

I didn't know if it would be an insult to others or not, not using the Dr. because I myself am in that situation and if I received an invitation in the near future or right after my wedding I wouldn't mind being sent a Miss or Mrs, but that's just me I guess. I reserve the Dr. bit for just professional use so it doesn't bug me I guess.

I've got multiple family members who are in the double Drs, husband/wife but whenever my mother addressed things she used Dr. & Mrs. they haven't minded in the past, I don't think it's been a big deal to them at all. Well not a big deal to be mentioned and that's been over 30+ years.

I kind of avoided the situation when sending out my STDs by just saying 'The xxxx Family' but now with proper invites, and having them done by hand calligraphy I want to have them done properly and need to send an exact list with no ambiguity to the lady doing our calligraphy. (I also want to avoid the situation I had with my e-party where I put 'The XXX family' and literally extra family members (not my family members) showed up! I definitely didn't mind that at the e-party but I do for our wedding! That's why I wanted opinions on the mr/mrs & family or mr/mrs & children) I also used Miss for adults instead of Ms. but then again I don't know proper etiquette.

The calligraphy lady said she'd write whatever we wanted. That's nice but not helpful. Maybe I'll have FI bug her again and ask her what kind of etiquette rules she recommends too. I hope she'll get back to us with that question though! She still hasn't answered a previous one since she said she would, as she said she's got a busy schedule, and doesn't really answer email questions right away. Don't get me wrong she's been extremely pleasant, bumped us up as much as she could with reserving a date, but with any other question, hasn't been able to answer us when she said she would. But she does great work so we reeeeeally like her!

Re: Invitation addressing etiquette?

Yeah. I do tend to get caught up in small details at times and not in others, but when I do get caught up, they really do bother me!

The older generation, I think won't mind, it's the younger generation of relatives and friends I don't want to insult or offend, their husbands or themselves. I don't know how its' handled in each individual home.

I really do want just a set of universal rules on proper etiquette that is clear and concise with all case scenarios that I can use for everyone.

It's hopefully the only time I'll ever be doing 'fancy' invitations in my life so I want it done nicely and properly for once.

No, I'm doing an outer envelope, no inners because we're doing a pocketfold instead, not writing the names on that as it would cost waayyyy too much.

Thanks for the input again!
