Invitation and postage questions

Invitation and postage questions

We are looking at invitations but we before we decided on what I thought I'd get some feedback on postage... From what I understand, pretty much all invitations are at LEAST 60 cents... (if I'm wrong, correct me here!)

One of the invitations we like is long and narrow... probably about the size of a business envelope.

Second is more normal, probably close tot he size of a greeting card.

Last is a square shape. Probably about 6x6 in or so...

Would any of these require additonal postage above 60 cents?

Also, when we order invites, I know we can order lined envelopes... is it extra for the return address to be printed on them? Also, do you have to order the envelopes for the response cards or are they included? And do we have to pay for the address on those too?

Any opinions on the invites are welcome as well!

Thanks so much, as always, girls!!

ETA one more question!
How far in advance do you put the RSVP date? I was thinking about a month but the person we will be getting the invites from said about 8 weeks! Just thought I'd see what you all think

Re: Invitation and postage questions

Our invites were close to the size and shape of the second one. It costed 60 cents to mail.
I like the first invite! I think I like it because of the fact that the shape is unusual.

First, #1 below is adorable!

You need to have an invitation weighed at the post office to see how much it will cost. The square invitation absolutely will not cost less than $.60 (the post office doesn't like square letters).

You would want your return address printed on your outside envelope, which, if you're also using an inside envelope, wouldn't be lined. It will probably cost extra for envelope lining and for printing the return address, but those costs are really low when you look at the big picture.

Envelopes with your address printed on them are usually included with the response cards.

If you're concerned about cost, you may want to cost out all the possible invitation elements (lining, return addresses, ink that's not black, etc.) and compare your overall cost between invites. Don't get bogged down over an extra $.50 per invite for one element if your overall cost for that invitation is lower.
good luck!

Most Standard one are from what I've seen.

Unless the weight was exceptional, it should be 60 cents.

Usually there is a charge.

The envelopes should be included in the 'response card set' but you will probably have to pay to have the address put on (maybe? I forget!)

They are all very pretty!

6x6 are more postage, any square shape is...one reason we avoided them. I do like them though but decided it was a place to cut some costs... We put our RSVP about a month in advance, I am now wishing we did 5-6 weeks instead...8 weeks seems a little much to me.

Your invitation choices are all so cute! Maybe you could show a sample or take the measurements to the post office to be sure. They have some type of guideline they use and mine were considered an 'irregular shape' and required extra postage just for that reason.

You definately want to get your return address on both your outter envelopes and RSVP envelopes, which will cost extra.

I would make the RSVP date about 6 weeks before your wedding date since some tend to reply late.

Good luck!

Re: Invitation and postage questions

Anyone know about what the postage is for the square shaped envelopes?

FH likes the square ones... I personally like the first the best but they are more expensive... So what makes more sense... expensive invites with cheaper stamps or cheaper invites with expensive stamps... we are getting 40% off the price anyway...

Most invites end up being 60cents because of the weight anyway (especially if you are sending with lined inner envelopes). We had square invites and paid the same 60 cents for invite, 2 inserts for directions and accomodations, the RSVP card and envelope and inner and outer envelope so I don't think the size or shape is going to make any difference.

'they' say that square ones are more money but mine were square and 60 cents covered it.
You have to check about the cost with all the different companies. I think they are all different. My return address, response envelope were included but I paid extra for the lined inner envelopes.

Re: Invitation and postage questions

From My experience don't look at the size but how heavy they are mine were regular size invites that cost me 83 cents to mail out. plus the 37 cents

They all look like 60 cent invites. If they have a bow or a seal and a not flat it will be more. Mine have ribbon and a seal

A month before RSVP date is perfect.

They are probably 60 cents, but I would take them to the post office when you have everything ready (invitations, direction cards, etc.) Ask them to weigh them.

Re: Invitation and postage questions

we did the square shaped ones and they were 60 cents. any 'abnormal' shape envelope would be that much (even if they were like 3x3)
