Is anyone skipping the inner/outer envelope combo and just doing an outer envelope? THis was my plan until I started reading Crane's Blue Book of Wedding etiquette - now I can't seem to figure out how I will address the outer envelope to families - any ideas? I mean like Aunts and Uncles with kids under 18 who are invited. How are you tackling this?

I'm not doing inner envelopes either. I'm either going to address it to
Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Family 1232 Some Street Somewhere, NY 12345
or
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Jones David, Michael, and Jeffrey 1232 Some Street Somewhere, NY 12345

I'm not using an inner envelope. But I also don't have any 'and family' invites.

I have been trying to think how I can devise to get rid of these 'family' invites - how are you diong it? No kids? No under 18s?
Our 'kids' are all first cousins . . . doh.

My inner envelopes are free so I am going to use them. If I had to pay for them -I probably wouldnt

I have a whole envelope saga - but I was trying to avoid using the inner envelope to be 'green' and am using a belly band in lieu of the inner envelope (much less paper) . . . but now this seems to present something of a dilemma for addressing. But maybe its not that big a deal.

Not doing inner envelopes, but I don't have any kids under 18... I capped it off at first cousins (for the most part) and the youngest of them is 22.
my FG's don't count bc they're bridal party

Actually now that I think about it, I do have 2 'and family.' One is my sister, BIL, and nephews (RB's) and the other is my best friend (BM), husband, and daughter (FG). I guess I'm just going to do 'The Smith Family' on them.

i am using inner envelopes.
for people who i am inviting the entire family:
Outer Envelope will read: The ___ Family Inner Envelope will read: Husband, Wife & Children's Names
i think that is you are only using the outer envelope it should read: The ___ Family.

I don't have inner envelopes....my calligrapher told me for the 'family' invites, the address should be read 'Mr. & Mrs. John Doe & Family'

I am just doing the outer envelopes too. I am having inner envelopes because they come with my invites but I am just going to include them without addressing them. I am using 'and family' on my outer envelopes.

I was wondering the same thing. And what if you don't have inner envelopes, but the parents in the family have different last names. Like say I am inviting Jim Smith, Barbara Jones, and their 2 kids. How would I address it?
