I am having a destination wedding and I know you are supposed to send out the invitations 6-8 weeks before the wedding. My problem is I am getting married on 6/6/09 and I have a block of rooms booked at the hotel were I am getting married and the guest only have till 4/17/09 to book the rooms. So when do I send out the invitations???

Re: Invitation Help
I am in a similar situation -- our room block needs to be fulfilled a month before our wedding date.
I am making individual calls and emails to OOT guests to let them know about the room block. I am not going to send out the invitations earlier than the 6-8 week mark.
Maybe ask your stationer about the proper etiquette?

Re: Invitation Help
I think b/c you are having a destination wedding you are actually allowed to send them out earlier. I assume that everyone will be out of town, right? I would send out invitations, have the RSVP date you need but tell them to book hotels before. .
check your hotels cancellation policy, if they don't have a charge, tell your guests to reserve their rooms before the cut off even if they are not positive they will come, then they can always cancel them
also edited to say, for most destination weddings I went to I had all my travel booked about 2 months out. .b/c air tickets and hotels, everything gets more expensive close up. .

Re: Invitation Help
I was thinking about sending the invitations out earlier so people can book their flights and rooms but I don't want it to be to early. I guess the earlier the better it gives people more time to save money and look around so they don't feel they are under pressure.

i went to a destination wedding and in the invite we were given the name of the travel agent to go through. they knew all the information needed and just had to put in our names and take a deposit.

Re: Invitation Help
Honestly, I think u should send out the invites NOW. People may need to get time off from work, find a dogsitter, look for 'cheap flights', etc.
