Invitation help/inner envelopes

Invitation help/inner envelopes

We ordered our invitations yest. and they came with the inner envelopes. I'm not really sure what the point of them is? Do we need to have people's names written in caligraphy on them as well? I might just toss them.

Also, did anyone use the computer to print out addresses on the envelopes? if so, please tell me how you did it.

Thanks!!!

Re: Invitation help/inner envelopes

Inners from from the Victorian era when envelopes were addressed by messengers and opened by servants to be delivered on a silver platter to the lady & gentleman of the house.

The outer is addressed to who physically lives at the house, and the inner is addressed to who is invited. Meaning, if you invite Ms. Jane Doe & Guest and 'guest' does not live with Jane, you address outer to Ms. Jane Doe, and inner to Ms. Jane Doe and guest.

Let me know if you have more questions :)

The inner envelope makes the presentation more formal. You normally would just write their last name on the inner envelope. so it would be Mr. and Mrs. Smith, whereas the outer envelope would be addressed Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, with the address.

Its really up to you whether you use them or not.

I think the inner envelope is also meant to protect the invitation and keep everything together (after the outer is discarded!) That is my interpretation at least!
