Invitation Idea-Need Feedback

I want to have invites with Sage ribbons, but the budget just isn't there. I was thinking of doing an expensive realitively plain invite and then either hole punching on the top it myself and adding inexpensive ribbon from a store OR tying up everything that goes in the inner envelope with a sage ribbon to hold it all together.

Is this a stupid idea? Will this look good? Which would you do?

It's NOT a stupid idea at all! Actually FSIL is getting married in a couple of weeks and is doing a holiday theme. Her invitations were very plain white cards with embossed holly leaves around the edges. She bought thin, sheer red ribbon, cut it into 1/2' pieces, knotted it and put a dab of hot glue to attach them to the top. It looks like they came like that. Go for it!
