invitation pricing travesty!

so i went to order my invites today (YAY!) and i ordered 125 in spanish and 25 in english. i had gone to the place before and got quoted about $300 (for 150 total) so i was expecting that. when she totalled it up, it went over $500! turns out the language difference makes it a totally new order - AND - ordering so few allows them to jack up the price - over $200 for 25 invites!! i told her she could shove it *kidding* but now i have reason to DIY my pocketfold invites like all you cool chickies!! i'm beyond excited...now i need to figure out how the hell to do them!

I know why its surprising to hear ... it doesn't 'seem' to make sense!

BUT that is the way that the invitation printing companies (not the stores themselves) do things.

They build their setup costs into the FIRST 25 of each part (things like the typsetting, and making the plates to go on the printing presses for thermography or engraving). Then they price out 'ADDITIONAL 25s' after that.

Since you needed to have two versions of your invitation typeset, you incurred those additional costs for the typsetter and for the plates to be made.

Also, some printing companies charge extra for foreign language.

HTH!

Arg. Don't you hate that?! I've been floored a few times when seeing the totals of things.

Have fun with the DIYs. I'm going to stat working on mine soon so we can work through it together.

We did it the other way around. English invitations and Spanish ones to send back home. What we did is that we are sending the English invites and writing the Spanish translation on velum (hope that's spelled correctly) paper. Just giving you another option if you had your heart set on the invitations you had picked out.
