invitation rules

rules rules rule... i feel like everything has to be done a certain way. Everyone says that invitations set the tone. here are my questions if anyone knows of a good site i would appreciate it ...

1. what is an inner evelope - is it necessary
2. inner linning is it needed
3. how to address the outside
4. did anyone adress them themselves - so scared to ruin them with printer.

Re: invitation rules

I have a really great book that will help you with whatever you need.

1) you do not need an inner envelope, but if you want one than that's okay.

2) you do not need an inner lining either

3) addressing the outside go here:

some of the rules are still valid, some rules are out-dated.

1. inner envelope... it depends on what type of invite you're sending. pocketfolds don't need them. they aren't necessary. the idea was created for the purpose of not having that envelope getting damaged in the mailing process. if you decide to use them, this is where you put the guests name.

2. inner lining... it's usually like a tissue paper. it was used when invites were created by hand. it was a way to protect the invite from drying ink... so it wouldn't get messed up. no exactly necessary.

3. address the outside 'formally': Mr. John Smith.
Mr. and Mrs. Michael Smith. Miss Mary Jones, etc.
if you're addressing an envelope to an un-married couple living together, you put the names in alphabetical order

4. my moh addressed my envelopes. you always get extra outer envelopes just in case.

She's exactly right. I have a pocketfold invite so therefore I don't have an inner envelope.
