Invitation-Timing Question & Calligraphy Question
It was suggested that we should send out our invitations for a Long Island wedding 10 weeks in advance. Does this sound reasonable? My FH thought if we sent out our invitations on September 23 and have a November 4, 2002 response due date for a December 7, 2002 wedding it would be too early and people would forget to come to the wedding. How soon have all of you sent your invitations? Also, do most people address the invitations by hand calligraphy or is it ok to have laser printing by the invitation company? I always heard it was not 'socially correct' not to have calligraphy or raised printing. Anyone have thoughts?
Thanks!

Re: Invitation-Timing Question & Calligraphy Question
You can have laser printed envelopes, just NOT laser labels on your envelopes. Hand calligrapher is 'proper etiquette' but that was written before computers were ever invented. My wedding is Nov.2. My invites go out on 9/1 for a 10/1 response date.

Re: Invitation-Timing Question & Calligraphy Question
I had mine done in hand calligraphy. I sent my invites out exactly two months before the wedding with a response date of one month before the wedding. Good luck!

Re: Invitation-Timing Question & Calligraphy Question
Let's see...I think I am sending mine out September 16thish - the RSVP date is a month before my wedding. The wedding is 11/29 which is a holiday weekend. My mom is doing laser with the same exact font as the invitations, and the return address was done by the place and is raised. Hope this helps.

Re: Invitation-Timing Question & Calligraphy Question
I am in the process of printing all my envelopes on my deskjet printer using a calligraphy font. I think it looks nice..very clean and neat. May not be the proper thing but so many people I know do it this way these days. The outer envelopes look great, but I am having problems with the inner envelopes (they are thinker because of the lining). I think I am going to try them at my office one weekend (much better laser printer). As far as mailing them...my wedding is October 26. The response date is September 30th. Plan on mailing them mid-late August...so I guess that is about 10 weeks before our wedding.
